Obviously a slow time, but Nico’s close was insanely impressive. He was on a whole different level from the rest of the field, and even without Fisher it was a great field. Barring injury, he’s a lock for the 5K and 10K team this year.
Obviously 8:01 overall time isn't that impressive but that time with 2:20 last 1k is wow.
Except that Jakob closes that fast in a 13:13 championship 5K…
Yeah was going to say - there are what at least 10-15 guys in the world that would best that? (maybe more?) Three of them are running in the 1500m in 20min time. That was a poor race for $50k. I hope the distance guys enjoyed this because there will be nothing over 1500m next year in Grand Slam Track.

exciting finish, but I didn't even start to watch until the final k. every time I look up and see 2:55-3:00k pace. nothing to see.
And there's only 7 guys, so position and that type of thing don't even matter. could be running in lane 4 at that pace, and still be at full power for finishing drive.

Then this was a pretty good simulation of a world finals :) 4k in 10:53 is just under 2:45/k or 8:15ish pace. The guys here just have to sharpen down to 12:40ish talent by September
Also, this is maybe an unpopular opinion, but I don’t particularly mind these 3K races being on the slower side. Sure we love seeing fast times in a time trial setting, but it’s learning how to respond to moves and when to make moves in championship style races that is going to help these athletes at Worlds or the Olympics. Watching Nico show patience, not panic when being boxed in, navigate his way out of that and trusting his kick..that was sick to watch and will give him even more confidence in his race tactics than trying to front-run a 7:30.

Yeah I'm not really bothered about that being an 8:01 race. It was a big test for Young, and he passed. I do wish Fisher was in that race though because he's the guy I really wanted to see how Young measured up against. Young closing in 2:20 for his last 1k and still being able to run a 25.6 last 200 suggests he's in a good spot because we know Fisher loves to take it from 3-4 laps out.
