Nuguse sub 1:45. I think that should give him all the confidence in the world to win worlds this year .
Do we think he couldn't have run 1:44 when he came 3rd last year? Kerr was 1:45.01 and Hocker 1:45.13. I think they're all still super close (especially since Kerr beat Nuguse yesterday in an unpaced 1500). It's only May though, plenty of time for someone to separate themselves.

Goose needs to let someone else lead the 1500. he now has the best 800 PB of the big 4 at sub 145

I’m a HUGE fan of Nuguse. He isn’t afraid to race anyone, always puts himself in it. I hope they bring Hobbs in as a challenger in one of the last two Slams. This 800/1500 set up may just be his bread and butter.
Hocker seems to time his peak well so he may just be training heavy through these early season Slams. I have a feeling by Pre he will be threatening for the win.
Hats off to Kerr - was genuinely concerned he was on the downhill after indoor and then Kingston GS. He really turned it around.
Nuguse was anchoring splitting 48’s in his 4x400 in HS. His kick last 100m is dangerous and if it comes down to a lean he has the best lean in the world.
Good assessment. Hocker (and also Nuguse) take some time to sharpen and peak, so they're right on great pace. Maybe Hocker is a bit training heavy at moment, he seems like he's not as crisp yet for sure. Nuguse goes for it! And happy for Kerr - he turned it around and it's a needed boost for him. Come on Philly!!!!!
One other thing of note here - not sure what to make of Jessica Hull. Is it just me or shouldn't we be expecting a 3.50 runner in that type of race to be able to come through at some point and win comfortably? She is 5 seconds better than anyone else in that race after all. Two of these races now and she hasn't even finished in the top 3, in the event that she is 5th fastest of all time and in that very, very rare sub 3.51 club.
Your whole premise is wrong. Welteji ran 3:52.75 in the Olympic final, which is only 1.92 seconds slower than Hull’s PR, and she was only .19 behind Hull in that race. Last year she beat Hull at the Pre Classic (in May) by over 2 full seconds. Hailu’s PB is 3:54.16, 3.33 seconds slower than Hull’s PB, which she ran to win last year’s Rome DL in which Hull was 4th. Even Hiltz ran 4.50 off Hull’s PB to win the Olympic Trials, an unpaced championship race. None of those 3 were in the Paris DL where Hull ran her 3:50.83.
Not saying that Hull isn’t underperforming slightly, but acting like she’s 5 seconds better than these other women is totally false and misleading. She had a magical day in a perfect setup where she was able to draft off of Kipyegon for 1200 meters and then chase her on the rail to the finish; if you apply those circumstances to Welteji and Hailu, they’re also running 3:50-3:52.
Also, it’s easy to forget that it’s May 3rd and the WCs are in mid September.
The format feels the most off to me with the hurdles. Russell runs 12.17 but the slam title goes to the winner of the 100, an event none of them would be running otherwise? I get the math but if it’s a short hurdles slam, make both events hurdles (200m hurdles? Idk)
I appreciate the shake up but if grand slam is going to win me over, something’s gotta change. Otherwise I’ll stick with diamond league.
The slam did not go to just the winner of the 100M. It's a combined points total of the 100M and the 100MH. How is this not obvious to you?

I find this take utterly bizarre. There is far less of our sport to watch at the elite level than any serious sport. And yet you feel the need to choose between GST and the Diamond League? They may view themselves as in zero-sum competition, but I don't understand why viewers should see it that way in terms of their own enjoyment. In a week you can watch more hours of at least four sports in American than you could of track for the year.
