Got some anecdotes on kids missing out despite great academics due to bad essay? Or mediocre kids just slipping thru the cracks?
From Jewish sources:
Keep in mind Jews make up about 2% of the US population. They do not dominate National Honosr societies, grades, test scores. Those are dominated by the Asians (also @ 2% of the population) and white non Jews (over 50%)
Columbia University has a significant Jewish student population, with around 1,500 Jewish undergraduates, comprising 22.8% to 23% of the undergraduate student body.
University of Pennsylvania - This prestigious Ivy League institution located in Philadelphia has a Jewish population of around 25%.
Yale University’s undergrad student body is 27 percent Jewish (1,500 Jewish undergrads out of 5,477 total).
Actually they do dominate test scores. IQ is a standard deviation higher than the general population,
Totally not the case. Israel, which is @ 74% Jewish, has an average IQ of 92.4. Way down the list of smartest nations. It's become a joke in the corporate world -- how did we get all the dumb ones.
He was denied admission to Cornell and 15 other schools.
Is there racism, in particular against Asians in college admissions? Yes
Is that the sole reason he got rejected? No
He got rejected from 16 schools, how many did he apply to? I think the problem more so is the common application process allowing you to apply to 20+ schools. Then school likely reject candidates to boost their acceptance rates / test scores.
Did these 16 schools really think he would go there? Is is worth accepting him and putting another student on a waitlist? I'm sure the waitlist acceptance is lower. So by accepting a student who likely won't attend, you potentially lose out on a student who would but they got waitlisted and went to another school. Same reason, if you apply to McDonalds, they might reject you if you have a higher level degree since they know you won't likely accept or only work there for a very short period time.
It is getting to the point where they need to have a ranking system similar to med school matching to help schools and students match verse kids applying to 20+ schools.
People are really in this thread defending and drug dealing thug who makes music about doing drugs, degrading women, and doing crime.. 😭😭 and since we don’t support that now we’re being called racist 💀 WTF has this world become
A significant amount of racism exists in the United States. It always has and it most likely always will. There are numerous laws and lawsuits throughout our history to prove it.
So why are liberals opposed to laws that treat everyone equally and fairly?
Colleges claimed they need affirmative action for a 'diverse' class. But now that it's 'banned', their demographics have barely changed. So they're obviously still discriminating.
Dump is opposed to fairness laws. He's doing away with anything that gives minorities or any poor people equal footing!
Mentality? Explain your reasoning here. I'm just being comedically honest - we do live in California.
You taught your kids that their failures are due to their gender and skin color. That mentality.
Au contraire DEI troll. No one fails because of immutable traits. The state and school's educational system is the only failure here. And while I'd like to take some credit, the boy learned that if at first you don't succeed ... That's something we can all learn from.
I pointed out that sometimes they do. And pointed out that those that suck at interviews or writing essays are generally those who think they should just go away. That doesn’t mean there aren’t mediocre kids that slip through the cracks at elite schools for any number of reasons.
Your reading comprehension is not Harvard material.
If a kid from certain other races had this resume, they could take a sh*t on the floor in their interview and still be admitted...

This is true. Schools will reject you if they think you’re just wasting their time.

Yield is still a big metric, I think, for schools outside the top 10 but with designs to move up
Might as well reject someone obviously using you as a safety school
You don’t think that it’s blindingly obvious he’d have been accepted everywhere if he was a black or Hispanic female?
I don’t. I find that to be a loser’s mentality to blame his race.
Really. Run a thought experiment and pretend he was a black female with those stats and extracurriculars. You think that person would be rejected everywhere?

Well they would be at many state universities ( assuming the original applicant was). Many are race blind. We already have many excellent schools that are the meritocracies people want.

The fact is that most kids getting rejected with 1550 SATs and APs crammed to the brim are likely not that talented. They have farmed a “perfect” resume through insane levels of work at the expense of lots of other positive experiences.
