The USA own hummers. I will not stand here and let you ridicule the United States Of America.
One important note: At at current rate of rapid decline in physical health of most Americans, pretty soon none of the SUV owners will be in shape enough to climb up into their Hummers. So in a way the environment may get a little better because a bunch of fat arses will have maxed their credit cards out on a Hummer but aren't strong enough to climb up into the driver's seat.
Even those considered to be "good drivers" get into accidents. Your wife in the hummer poses a greater danger to the average driver.
I not sure about the accident rates of Hummers but don't assume your wife is safer in that huge gas guzzler.
Have you considered the greater risk you might pose to others by driving the Hummer? Or, is that not a factor at all in your decision?
Sorry, I was responding to the first post and hadn't read the whole thread when I put up the link.
Until all of the Johnny 18-year-olds can learn to drive under 60 mph through town, I would rather my wife and children be in the Hummer...
What happens when those kids of yours become your dreaded Johnny teenagers and start drive your tank. How safe would your wife and kids be if a lot of people thought like you.

Although this is clearly irrelevant to the argument, I guessing that those have have posted against waste on this board may have a greater yearly income.
Interestingly I used to work at a place where damn near everyone there was making around 6 figures, nearly 1500 people. The parking lot in the back end to end was about a half mile long and filled mostly with basic cars, some trucks and a few SUV's and vans. The 4 door sedan made up the majority. Then one day someone started driving their big yellow Hummer to work, the only one in the entire lot. It really struck me as odd because this was a research facility filled with mad scientists. It just didn't add up.. Finally one night after work I see the proud owner climbing up (literally) into his vehicle. Turned out to belong to the security guard who worked the front desk of the lobby. For some people it has to be about illusion. I still wonder how this guy could afford it.
unilateral disarmament has such a wonderful history of success
reserving the right to drive something bigger and/or safer than average
let's all join hands and sing old lennon songs, now...
He must be affiliated with the new USATF Sphincter Entry Center in Indianapolis headed by John Drumond.

I am 100% positive that my wife poses little to no risk as a driver, as she is the world's most cautious driver. She gets scared driving over 40 mph
I'm sorry to have to tell you the truth. But your wife doesn't drive over 40 mph and and you said in a different post doesn't drive that much because she HATES the Hummer.
People laugh at the foolishness of Hummer drivers when they park miles away from the mall, when they try to maneuver those poorly designed monsters in the city, and everyone is happy they are not a Hummer driver when they see them at the pumps.
Nothing makes a statement, "I am a really foolish person" like driving a Hummer. Within the past few months I don't see them as much. I guess they are taking a lot of space in garages. Who wants to hop in a Hummer to drive to the corner store? Its just plain silly.
The sad part is you won't even be able to unload the bondoggle.
The past skyrocketing sales Hummers are plummetting fast.
I feel bad for your wife. Was that Hummer her wish or yours?
Ahh, the letsrun mantra -- if you don't have the facts to support your argument, just make them up! Apparently you have access to more accurate sales figures than GM.http://media.gm.com/servlet/GatewayServlet?target=http://image.emerald.gm.com/gmnews/viewmonthlyreleasedetail.do?domain=74&docid=25129In the beginning of this thread, I drew a parallel between SUV haters and religious zealots. Along those lines, I ask: are you so obsessed with other people's choices that you will make stuff up to support your views?

I was on the edge over whether or not I wanted a second H2. I have one and my wife just loves it. I let her drive it most the time. You folks convinced me how petty people that can't afford things are. Our household will be proud to know that it pisses off the letsrun crowd.
Any guesses on what Hummer sales will be like in the next 6 months in the US. My suggestion is not to invest in them. Even the downsized models will lose popularity.

You are a great source of amusement to us watching you drive around trying to find a parking place. We love to laugh at you guys and try to guess what flaw you are trying to compensate for. We can't wait to see you get out of the car to see which guess is right.
if the demand drops, so will the prices, and we can buy more of them. can't wait i'm so excited.
You may be correct, though the much smaller H3 may actually lead to increasing overall sales. Remember that Hummer is a niche brand (albeit one that inspires disproportionate levels of criticism), and the H3 is much lower priced than the H1 or H2. I believe the H1 only sold a few hundred units last year, and it is being phased out.
Anyway, as of Q1 2006, Hummer sales have soared, despite cocksure assertions to the contrary.
Again, I wouldn't buy one--I have a strong preference for light, nimble, and fun-to-drive sports cars. But I'm not foaming at the mouth at the thought of (a small group of) others buying an automobile that I don't like.

I don't think I ever said that she hates driving the Hummer, but think what you will...
I would NEVER let my kids drive a hummer.
My kids, when they turn 16, might get a car.... It sure as hell won't be a Hummer...
People with little willies drive massive cars. It's a well known FACT.
I hope so, I get so depressed by the price of gas, but when I see you guys in crowded traffic I always get a chuckle.
I know its mean, but it bring a smile.
Its really sad they phased out the H1. They were truly a delight to behold.
The funny thing is, probably 9 times out of 10 the Hummer owner could get out of his vehicle, pull you out of yours, and kick the living sh!t out of you. Not because they're necessarily all that tough, but because you're just such a fuggin pu$$y.
Instead of 'chuckling,' you'd be crying like a little b!tch.
Does your wife really NEED a Hummer to feel safe? There are plenty of safe cars out there that are more practical. I drive a Subaru Forester...the thing is a tank. And with front and side airbags, it'll protect me and my kids pretty well in a crash. Will it roll over anything in my path? No, but honestly, do you really need that? It's plenty big for me, my wife, our two kids, and enough gear to get us through a weekend in the mountains. And the base price is about $10,000 less than an H2...that kind of savings would provide a nice start to your kids' college fund! Not to mention it handles better, gets better mileage, parallel parks better, blah blah blah.
