Treatments that involve the permanent disfigurement and sterilization of minor children absolutely do not merit study.
Full stop.
I don’t think surgery like that should be done on someone who isn’t of age. It’s obviously a huge decision and I think reversible treatments are appropriate until the patient in question is an adult. Do you find that acceptable?
The puberty blockers do just as much if not more longlasting damage than the physical mutilation. The democrat position is that it's cruel NOT to provide these puberty blockers to children.
Puberty blocking is irreversible.
It sounds like youd have a problem with the study too if you understood what it was.
If so, should that medical treatment be based on controlled studies?
Should the government fund science?
Again, your argument boils down to one of ideology: you don't like people who are transgender. Maybe it's because your daddy didn't love you enough as a child. Maybe it's because you spend too much time reading the magic fairy book. Maybe it's because you got your brain cell scrambled while riding around in a tank. Who the f*ck knows. But, you are saying you don't want the best possible medical care for Americans based solely on their gender. That makes you a truly revolting excuse for a person.
Your desire to sexually disfigure children does not make you a good person.
I agree that study funds investigating transgender therapy on mice. Do you think juvenile mice are humans?
I am firmly against hormone therapy for minors for gender identity reasons.
Do you disagree that the WH press release included grants that have little to do with transgender care?
Do you think they are mutilating these mice for fun? The study would not exist if transitioning minors didn't exist. They are trying to facilitate the abuse of children.
I have a problem with that. Using my money to do it I have a BIG problem with.
The overwhelming majority of Americans agree with me on this issue.
I did not read the press release. I don't support cutting the funding for legitimate research. Transitioning children is not legitimate research.
So you agree you’re focusing on one study that doesn’t align with things you believe in. I also agree that this specific grant probably has low likelihood of being useful. However a lot of stuff we’ve learned about sex development has come from exactly these kind of studies. We have to study how things change when we add/remove variables.
Most of other grants listed in the press release (the topic of this thread, which you did not read 🙄) do not fall under this umbrella - so I oppose the broad slashing of grants with “transgender” somewhere in the abstract. Seriously read the asthma one and tell me if you disagree.
If your argument is that NIH study sections that rank grants are partially politically driven and people try to include “hot topics” to boost their proposals… yes I agree and 99% of scientists do too. But we are the most scientifically productive country nonetheless…
You seem really wound up and easily triggered. Maybe that's why you have such a hard time keeping a consistent narrative.
The vaccine reduced severity in people who were infected and reduced transmission by 40%. Let's look at how a virus like COVID, with an R number of around 3 in unvaccinated populations looks as a function of time compared to with a 40% reduction in transmission. Start with 100 infected people. In case 1, they will infect 300 people. Those 300 people will infect 900 people, and so on. After 10 generations, there will be 5.9 million people infected. Now compare to case 2, where everyone is vaccinated. Again starting with 100 infected people, after 10 generations there will be only 1.9 million infected people. Less, than one-third as many. After 20 generations, there will be one-sixth as many infected individuals.
So yes, I think people who were too stupid to pass high school biology who suddenly decided they were experts on immunology should have been fired from their jobs.
p.s. making false assumptions about me doesn't strengthen your case, it just highlights how non-existent your argument is.
I doubt you even took high school biology.

I'm aware the other studies don't involve mutilating children. I don't need to read the whole study.
My sole issue is tax funded research geared toward child abuse.
Keyword search. Cancel 15 grants. One of them was maybe actually woke BS. Yay!
The other 14 were studying cancer in kids or aging or chronic disease. Oops!
The change needs to be a net positive. Removing wokeness and cancer research is probably worse than having wokeness and cancer research. DOGE is yet to demonstrate it can do things selectively.
Where did I disagree with anything you said in regard to this grant? Can you answer my other questions?
The issue isn't studies that will benefit all Americans the issue is tax money being used on studies involving transitioning minors.
The societal benefit of other studies is completely irrelevant.
Your questions are completely irrelevant.
So, young mice?
We're talking about 6 specific studies that the White House highlighted. The title of the website is literally: "YES, BIDEN SPENT MILLIONS ON TRANSGENDER ANIMAL EXPERIMENTS"
None of the studies had anything to do with "transitioning minors" as they were all performed on animals (mice in most, if not all, cases).
"A Mouse Model to Test the Effects of Gender-affirming Hormone Therapy on HIV Vaccine-induced Immune Responses" -- Biological sex impacts the immune system, as evidenced by differences between men and women in vaccine- induced humoral responses. There is a considerable gap in knowledge, however, surrounding the immunological responsiveness of transgender people, a population at considerably higher risk for HIV and other STIs. To address this gap, we propose to develop an animal model of feminizing hormone therapy to study the effects of estrogen/anti-testosterone therapy on HIV vaccine-induced immune responses.
"Reproductive Consequences of Steroid Hormone Administration" -- Recent data estimates 1.4 million transgender adults and 150,000 transgender adolescents live in the United States, many of whom are on cross-sex hormone therapy with estradiol or testosterone (T). National and international medical organizations recommend fertility preservation counseling prior to initiation of cross-sex hormone therapy, based on an assumption of fertility loss. However, the impact of long-term cross-sex hormone therapy on reproductive health is largely unknown, particularly in transgender men (female-to- male or FTM).
"Gender-Affirming Testosterone Therapy on Breast Cancer Risk and Treatment Outcomes" -- This proposal will undertake preclinical studies to address breast cancer (BC) risk and treatment concerns of transmasculine people (female-to-male transition).
"Microbiome mediated effects of gender affirming hormone therapy in mice" -- This project will determine the contribution of the gut microbiome to the effects of gender affirming hormone therapy(GAHT) in mice. Our study will provide information on whether GAHT exerts effects on skeletal maturation, and the mechanisms whereby the gut microbiome mediates the skeletal effects of GAHT. The project is important because the skeletal effects of GAHT in humans is a critical medical concern in transgender medicine.
"Androgen effects on the reproductive neuroendocrine axis" -- High levels of circulating androgens can negatively affect neuroendocrine reproductive hormone levels in females, yet the mechanisms and target cells by which androgens achieve these effects remain unknown.
"Gonadal hormones as mediators of sex and gender influences in asthma" -- Well-characterized sex and gender differences in asthma have been reported, with changes in morbidity throughout life. Starting around puberty and peaking during mid-life, women have increased asthma prevalence and higher rates of asthma exacerbations than men. Causes of these disparities remain unclear; however, studies have shown that sex-specific inflammatory mechanisms controlled by hormones contribute to differences in airway reactivity in response to environmental stimuli. Despite this, experimental models of asthma have not explored the contributions of sex hormones to inflammatory mechanisms in the female and male lung, and no studies have explored the effects of feminizing hormone therapy with estrogen in the lungs of trans women.
Again, you are making a complete fool of yourself.

It shined a light on something that needs to be fixed and it will be fixed.
The useful research will be funded and the child abuse research will be cut.

No children were harmed in any of the studies. There have been thousands of young mice given sex hormones for research for decades. It’s how we learn about sex development, among other things. so insistent that this study exists solely because of “child mutilation” is stupid. Very similar studies have been done under different pretexts.
here’s some from before 1975! Should these have been cancelled too? Do the actions, intent, or funding justification matter? Tough questions! Interested to hear your answer.
You're arguing against an argument I'm not making.
Transitioning minors is child abuse. You don't trust the kid to get a tattoo but you think they're mature enough to decide at 10 they never want to have a child or an orgasm ever in their entire life...
That's a paper. Not an NIH grant. You know the difference, right?
Yes, some of the work in the paper was funded by NIH, and I didn't bother to look what else those grant funded.
Keyword search. Cancel 15 grants. One of them was maybe actually woke BS. Yay!

Unfortunately if payments are delayed then long running experiments are canceled, reagents are lost, and people leave their work.
Continuity is important. Science works at scales longer than quarters and fiscal years.
The contrast between the two administrations is incomprehensible.
It’s amazing we survived the previous 4 years.

Your little demonstration doesn't take into account the fact that the effectiveness of the vaccine falls off a cliff rapidly over time.
You also assume herd immunity doesn't exist.
There were experts on both sides of the debate.
Well effectiveness does decrease with time, it neither "falls of a cliff" nor does so "rapidly over time". If only there were some boosters or something that one could get to counteract the decrease in effectiveness.
Herd immunity - like what is achieved by mandating a vaccine that reduces transmission?
Maybe. I've cited numerous experts in my posts. You've ranted like a lunatic, but presented no evidence.

They don't write papers for free and the NIH doest have any money.
So long as little kids are dying of thousands of different diseases I will continue to believe tax dollars are better spent on them than on transsexuals who voluntarily created their own physical problems.
