Holt is not built for the indoor 1500...or indoor overall. His hulking form and terrible tactics seem to hurt him the least in an outdoor 800.
Love the Holt story. But this season has been a relative disaster and 3:48 is worse than HS ish these days, sorry. He gets paid too.
I felt bad about posting this, but it is not an indoor , Outdoor thing. Since his vast improvement to sub 1:46.00 and 3:51.x mile, this year he has been 3:57.x for 9th at BU..and not that great at anything else, I guess a 3:55 for fifth was not too bad, but a 1:50+ 800 and 8:03.x for 3K. So , it has not gone well.
Hiltz just made a statement with that performance. how many meters at the front, 500 or 600?
After the race she said a couple of times is all she wants to do is compete. Then why isn't she going to World Indoors?
I don't like her. She's a self-centered crusader, and not of the live and let live variety. But I can't argue with anybody not wanting to go to China. YOu're losing days to the travel alone. Almost two days to get there. another 2 to get back.

You don't like THEM you mean.
If no USAmericans go to China, its gonna be the EthEPOians and the Aussies sweeping a lot of medals. Maybe some Frenchies, Norwegians, and a few Brit redcoats too.
In the case of the men's 60m who moves onto Worlds?
2nd place finisher Hilton doesn't have the standard
3rd place Wells does.
People qualify for Worlds based off of Top List performances during the qualification window between September 1st-March 9th. Coby Hilton is within the top 56 in the world, with a maximum quota of 2 per country or 3 with a World Indoor Tour wildcard spot, running 6.57s in Belgrade earlier this year. So he can go to Worlds.
Not a bad run from Tuohy. I think it was better than yesterday.
Dani Jones one spot ahead of Tuohy (4:09.37) and Taryn Rawlings two spots behind her (4:11.05) just ran 4:22 at BU a couple weeks ago just to put in perspective. Not where she wants to be I’m guessing but not a bad run.
Good for Dani for changing up the coaching sitch. Wish her success in the 15 but also want to see what she can do when focusing on the 5k. Would love to see her up there fighting for a spot at the bell

Leading from the front in a non-paced indoor 1500m or mile is such a good tactic since the disadvantage of leading due to the elements are eliminated indoors and the bonus of controlling the pace and making everyone behind you fight for spots and run around you.
On another note, Hoey's 800 run was insane. Like is he going to run a 1:41 outdoors? 3:29 outdoors? Let the guy run Grand Slam!!
Also- so happy for Sinclaire Johnson! After a string of injuries the last couple of years she made the tough decision of changing coaches and training methodology and it seems to be the right decision!

It's good because you're usually out of trouble.
But you don't want to have to pay attention to pace control, and it is always, always better to be the chaser than the chased

Not sure about that. There is some language that suggests WA will only defer to Top Performances List if the 56 sized field can't be filled.
But I've bolded some of the language below that is contradicting itself.
The top two place finishers in each event at the selection event, provided they have met the World Indoor Championships qualifying standard during the qualification period, will self select themselves via head-to-head competition on the team.
In each event, if an athlete declines to participate on the Team, USATF will offer that position to the next highest placing individual meeting all criteria and continuing in this order until the two positions for each event and the alternate position are filled.
Qualification by Top Performances List: Following the end of the Qualification Period, in those events where the target number of entries has not been reached as assessed by World Athletics, World Athletics shall identify and confirm as qualified the athletes with the next best position on the Top Performances list (based on a list starting on September 1 and calculated to include March 9, 2025, the “Road to Nanjing”) in order to reach the established target number while respecting the maximum quota by Member Federation by event. Note, the Road to Nanjing list will be published and updated every week on the World Athletics website beginning November 1, 2024.
If, after the close of the Selection Event, there is a place or are places in an event(s) on the World Indoor Championships Team that have not been filled, USATF will enter an athlete(s) or designate an athlete as an alternate, based upon their rank order of place finish at the Selection Event and by virtue of their inclusion in the final list of athletes qualified by Entry Standards and by the Top Performances list (to be published by WA on March 12, 2025). These athletes are not required to achieve the corresponding entry standard.
Yep. She is competing clean in a filthy sport and any set back in training such as illness leaves you in the well.
I have said multiple times that she needs to join a team that specializes in pro preparation. Does anyone think Shelby, Cranny and Karissa had such a pro leap in performance based on talent? Lolll. BTC is gone but BTC Boston has emerged. Train with someone who can show her the real ropes. Again, time will tell.
astro, I normally downvote your posts, but if you post about Hoey I will likely upvote it.
Hoey sounds like Tuohy, maybe Astro knows who he is?

Hoey’s big breakout is a great strength of the “racers” and “challengers” format of Grand Slam. He can be selected as a challenger for a grand slam meet and race with the best in the world.

One interesting stat: 52.9 close from Luke Houser 26.7/26.2. Came up short of Prakel but things are starting to click apparently. He moved up a couple of spots in my US rankings with that, it was impressive.
