Yeah it’s CRAZY to think anything is merit besides a singular test score.
I know.
Being born into the ruling tribe with alll those networks...now that's true merit.
Not the GPA you earned over four years.
Not your ACT scores.
Not your SAT scores.
Not earning your membership in the National Honor Society.
Given that Stuyvesant HS was brought up, the same ruling tribe is well represented there and in other elite schools HS where acceptance is based on high test scores. I guess they didn't really earn that either.
What I believe is that colleges shouldn’t keep tinkering with admissions until they achieve their desired demographics. Make it due to merit. If that doesn’t match the population, c’est la vie
Unless it doesn’t match my desired % of whites and asians. Then not c’est la vie!
You realize that this only happens because they discriminate, right?

This thread is full of posters who are alleging that racial quotas are bad and then turning around and saying that X school should have at least Y % Asians.

Yes, people don't think that Asians should be discriminated against because of their race. Such a bad belief!

That stop Asian hate campaign in New York City really fizzled out when it became apparent who was doing all the hatin’. 🤔

Don't know anything about that.
Do know that Jews comprise @ 5% of top scholars in HS in America and 15% to 20% of Ivy League undergrads.
From Grok: Here are the approximate percentages of Jewish undergraduate students at each Ivy League college as of 2021: Harvard University: Around 10% Yale University: Around 13% Princeton University: Around 8% Columbia University: Around 20% Brown University: Around 14% Dartmouth College: Around 9% University of Pennsylvania: Around 17% Cornell University: Around 15%.

Yes. Based on academic achievewment; not having gone on a free "Birthright" trip

Yes, avoiding discrimination by setting minimum % requirements for Asians!
There is a narrative out there that Asians have the same advantages as whites, although it varies a lot by country. Cambodians aren’t as wealthy on average as the Chinese, for instance.
But then if you want to create a graduate who represents your school well, do you want an Asian who tends to lack personality and the ability to work a room?
Democrat racism.
Not really. I am Asian and I was always told to study a lot and that would bring me success … only to learn that you have to have other skills to “succeed” in the U.S.
Is it also racist to say Black people are good at basketball? Or white people are good at brunch?

More accurately - not thinking that there should be a de facto quota to limit the amount of Asian Americans and thinking that admissions should be based on merit.

Except that you set a quota on the amount of Asians that should be admitted for you to be satisfied.

Asians often grow up in ESL households, but so do Blacks if you think about it.

In my book, it’s racist only if the generalization about the group is 1) negative; and 2) statistically inaccurate or exaggerated.
So saying Asians tend to be good at math is harmless. With negative stuff, you have to be a bit careful in front of others. Saying black people tend to be criminals might come across as racist, but in my book, it’s okay to say “black people tend to be more crime-prone than average” because it is statistically accurate. People will still pull their daggers out crying racism trying to explain that that’s because of economics and all that, but I’m just talking about my book.

It’s a fact that blacks tend to commit more violent crimes, and whites tend to commit more sex crimes. About Asians, copyrights law is a joke for really smart people.

I look at big tech and see Tim Cook, Zuck, Bezos, Gates, Brynn and Page of Google, Jensen Huang of Nvdia. None of them are the type that light up a room.

Are you illiterate? Do you not understand that a quota is a limit?
True. But also it’s the fact the fact that when a White and an Asian (or any other non-white) have equal credentials (or the non-white even has slightly lesser) they get the nod over the White most of the time, especially over White males. Of course the usial suspects get the most favored admissions treatment even with mediocre credentials - and you’re a nazi if you poin this out.
