Is it possible for a 36 year old to be in sub-4/sub-14 shape? Yes but I would think that’s damn hard to do. Late 30s you can definitely still run fast but you’re getting close to the point of Father Time catching-up with you.
Nothing that David has done indicates that he can run those times. At all.
As others have said, the lying is unnecessary and distasteful. Of course he’s going to get hate for it. It’s completely warranted. If he was actually in sub-4 and sub-14 shape at altitude, why not just do it? He has plenty of opportunities to race. There are a lot of open track races indoors and in the spring. Even if he were to solo a sub-4:10 at altitude, I bet that would shut a lot of people up.
Why not just admit that he exaggerated? He seems to be doubling and tripling down on these claims. He definitely reads the criticism online. In one of the podcast episodes, he mentioned that people online said he couldn’t do something like 6 x 1k at 2:45. This was very shortly after Leadville. His response was “of course I can! I could do that workout tomorrow!” Or something along those lines.
