I am not sure where I said they did not reference it in that regard. You indicated that use of the term "scorched earth" originated in 1941 from a Nazi attack. It did not.
What I said is unambiguous. Your desire to twist what was said and lie despite what is immediately before your eyes is telling of your intentions.
"Scorched earth" is synonymous with the Nazis - that is the point. It is mere pedantry to say the term was first used in the Japanese attack on Manchuria 4 years earlier. So what. But anything by you guys to avoid facing what the use of that term implies today. By approving if it it shows you Trumpers think like Nazis did.
Yes, just keep moving the goalposts.
I and many of my colleagues use the term "scorched earth" frequently in the practice of law. Not once has a judge or opposing counsel suggested that I was espousing Nazi-type language. It is certainty not synonymous with the Nazis despite your unrelenting and unfounded assertions.
The term "scorched earth" actually goes back to Greek and Roman mythology. In Metamorphoses, Ovid describes how Apollo's son Phaethon lost control of Apollo's chariot, which "scorched" the earth and set the world on fire.
And used throughout history including in the American Civil War by the union during the march through the south.
And used throughout history including in the American Civil War by the union during the march through the south.
So lets go way back to the ancient times, when there were no 50 states. And on a hill there stands Sherman, Sherman and his mates. And they're marching through Georgia. And there stands REM.
Maybe we can say the election was rigged and storm the U.S. Capitol dressed as a viking and carry confederate flags and shout hang Harris, as we bust out the windows and fight with police. Then continue to say it was rigged for 4 more years and lie about how patriotic we were when we tried to kill congress and stop the certification.

Liar. The term may be used casually - even unthinkingly - by some today, like you and your colleagues, but its metaphorical quality comes solely from the brutality it was associated with, and that was chiefly what was done by the Nazis. If it were not so none of you professional bullsh*tters would apply it for extreme and even devastating measures - as it was being used here in relish at what would happen to the State by Trump. Since the etymological origins of terms so matters to you, how do you feel about "scorched earth" being applied by Trump to the State, which was the point I was responding to (which you completely bypassed - as you would)?

Not surprisingly, you are flat-out wrong.
With respect to the Eastern Front in WWII, "scorched earth" refers to the Soviet policy of burning their cities, villages, and farms as they retreated during the Summer and Fall of 1941, so as to not leave anything useful behind for the Wehrmacht.
Pick up a book sometime, pal.
So tell me about how you feel about "scorched earth" being applied to the State by Trump?

Read some of the references cited by other posters, you rube. You are dead wrong.

So the most important thing to you is when a term was first used rather than what it has become best known for - and you especially duck how it was used here, which was in approval of its application to the State by Trump. That's as slimy an evasion as you can get. If I am a "rube" you have shown what you are.

Good God. It was you that mentioned that the term originated in 1941 and fought tooth and nail when I indicated it did not. You then decided to move the goal posts when it became apparent that you were wrong.
I agree the term is synonymous with, for brevity, the imposition of extreme measures. This understanding pre-dates nazi Germany by decades and centuries, as noted by others.

It is you and others here who want to die on the hill of when did the term originate (which didn't predate the Nazis by centuries but was in the same era, with the Japanese attack on Manchuria, and has its most potent associations with Nazi devastation in Russia) while not addressing how it was being applied here in approval of Trump policies. I asked you what do you have to say about that - but nothing. That is because you are of course a Trumper - but one who really cares about the origins of words, the big picture here.

If he wins, we just elected a racist, mentally ill person not fit for office.
Over half the country thinks he is better than Kamala. But I feel for the democrats, the DNC messed up once again. The people should of been able to choose their candidate
In the 1930's the term was coined for what happened in the rise of the fascist states as a "collective psychosis". It easily applies the Trump culture in the US today. Americans don't see it - not the right - because they are afflicted by it. But the rest of the world does.
Yes absolutely true. It wasn't until 2016 when Trump and his cult took over that Americans could start to understand what happened in Europe 80 years ago. Now we understand that there is a certain type of human, widespread throughout the population, that wants nothing more than to be told what to think and do, wants a fellow citizen to hate and blame for all their own problems in life and to be told it is okay to persecute them and take away their rights in order to feel better, and if a politician does these things then those types of people will slobber all over themselves to worship that person and excuse every evil thing he does.
That's where America insanely and sadly finds itself again, for the second time. We all thought after january 2021 America had emerged limping but still alive after a dark period in American history, but we plunge back into the darkness now.
Corruption and criminality in govt is going to skyrocket again, led by Trump and his cronies. International politics is going to suffer again with Trump's utter lack of understanding America's foreign policy interests and his ability to blunder his way through even the easiest situations. Expect a staunchly pro-Russia and pro-genocide American govt to start under Trump. Tariffs and the other mad ideas of Trump on the economy are gonna raise the cost on everything all over again.
America is going to stop making progress toward the future as Trump will cut off future focused technologies like green energy, as the nations interests turn firmly towards backwards looking rather than future looking. Violence and division in society is going to skyrocket again Trump supporters once again feel their violence and hatred and bigotry vindicated and Trump will tell them everyday it is okay to persecute people and hate their fellow Americans who simply want to live their lives in peace and freedom. Expect fiscal policy to get worse again as inflation rises and tax cuts increase deficits. Expect daily insults and attacks on Americans and American companies and Trump's political adversaries and America's international allies, just as we saw in his first term.
Expect endless and constant corruption, outlandish lies, pettiness, weekly scandals, constant tantrum throwing and acting like a child and blaming others for all his own mistakes, all hallmarks of a Trump presidency. Expect Trump to once again ignore the constitution consistently and ignore checks and balances in govt and Republicans to allow him to never be held accountable. And expect a whole new spate of crimes Trump will commit to add to his heinous crimes against America from his first presidency.
Also fully expect, in whatever maimed state the country find itself in by 2028, for Trump to have the justice department open up sham criminal investigations into whoever runs as the Democrat next election. 2028 US election is gonna look a lot more like elections in Russia and other countries where they simply imprison the political opponents. Though I don't think even Trump and all his corruption and the corrupted court system will actually be able to put the Democrat in prison, they are gonna do everything they can to politically weaponize the justice system against Democrats out of Trump's crazy grievance that the nation actually rather tepidly tried to hold him account for his actual crimes.
By the time Trump is through, we may not recognize the nation. It's getting hard to recognize the nation already after the past few decades of Republicans corruption, and the recent years of m@ga cu1t darkness and Trump/Repub corruption of the courts and congress and the govt in general. Dark times indeed ahead. Pray we still have some semblance of a free nation in four years and that we still have a functioning democracy then. In Trump's first presidency we saw how weak America's system is when one side just completely abandons any pretense of respecting it. This second time expect Trump and Repubs to be even less concerned with respecting any notion of Americans constitution and government rules. We're likely witness the gradual fall of America with this corruption. Really sad humans are so quick to give away their power when someone tells them its okay to hate people and to not think for yourself.
All Trump supporters. For a real laugh replace "Trump" with "Harris" in the above post. It becomes possibly 100% accurate.
We elected a felon and someone who has been held civilly liable for SA over who the democrats could produce for a candidate.
Biden curb stomped Trump, Trump being able to win this election entirely proves it wasn’t stolen that time. People clearly wanted something different than Trump. This will be Trumps first time winning the popular vote.
The powers at be chose the unpopular vice president of an increasingly unpopular president as their candidate. I can’t find a single person who I consider sensible who thinks either side has produced a “good” candidate. Centrists/Unaffiliated voters (who are the people who win elections) vote on whichever candidate they think is better. These people thought Trump was a disaster, they thought Bidens administration was even more of a disaster. What better way to freshen things up than picking the most recent disaster’s second hand man to take the reins of the Democratic party right?
I don’t know how, from the state of things it may be too late from this point on, or for the foreseeable future, but the people need a greater say in who the candidate will be. We are getting crazy and angry about candidates we didn’t even want or sign up for.
The thing we need to remember whether we are happy or upset about this election, or the next is that we have both a good short term and long term checks and balances system, Trump is gonna say and do things that piss a lot of people off these next 4 years, and if people are upset enough, they can elect someone who will reverse those things. The world is not ending just yet (hopefully). The entire conservative vs liberal thing in our system serves the purpose of allowing for progress without it getting out of hand or going in the wrong direction. As long as we don’t devolve into a complete idiocracy (which both sides need to check themselves on, there are increasingly lots of misinformed/delusional/illogical people and ideologies coming from both sides) our political system is pretty great and we should view it as a long term mechanism for people to work together and make sure we are heading in the best direction that we can as a people.
Both our last democratic/republican presidencies seem to have done more harm than good to the well being of our country, let’s see if the Donald can do better this time, and if he doesn’t, see if the next Republican or Democrat candidate sounds better.
Your post makes no sense, I have no idea what you're trying to convey? 🤔
All I know is this: The country has gone to pot by electing a convicted felon as our President! You can't make this stuff up - my head is still spinning.
the media will drag it out for ratings, but it's officially over
hate him or love him folks, Donald J Trump is your next president
Thank God TRUMP WON!!! My wife is a dumb feminist and now she has to shutup and cook in the kitchen! Finally we will bring back traditional values, rid abortion, and WOMAN HAVE LEARNED THEIR PLACE!!!
