BS Joe Newton, the best hs cross country by a lenght, was invested in every one of his runners. Sean may have been a good coach, but Coach Newton was a true educator.
Comparing basically all coaches to Newton just is not fair to them. He is heads and shoulders above the rest along with Tyson.

Newbuy Park won at all levels on girls and boys JV and Varsity. I know Steve Hawkins was Sean Brosnan’s long time assistant and he was great when the JV kids along with the Brosnan’s. Newbury Park is a fairly affluent area and I don’t envy those parents one bit. They basically did the best job asked of them. They had major buy in and that’s key.
Why would parents have to buy into a running program? If my 9:30 son went to Newbury Park, I would be glad he was out for a sport, and I wouldn’t have any problem accepting that 4 of the best runners in the country received more attention. That’s the nature of sports.
What does “buy in” mean, anyway, and what jobs were given to the parents?
I had to cough up $2K for my daughter to be a member of the band, and there were competitions where she didn’t return to the HS until after midnight.Why would they practice in Clovis? That’s a place you would want to leave to practice. A month at altitude camp sounds like a lot of fun, and I would have no problem paying for my kid to attend. A coach cannot impose supplements on a HS runner, and a parent has every right to not allow it. I looked at their XC schedules and the only out of state meets, were the last races of the season.
As far as multiple practices go, it’s likely the average Newbury Park student will have access to a car for the last 2 years of HS, and those who don’t, can get a ride from someone else.
I don’t see how N.P. would be different than any other HS in an affluent area.
