Running under the ncaa umbrella has advantages. But it is noteworthy. Putting all the other issues I have had aside, her drop off in the Olympics was also noticeable. Maybe she finally got tired. Took a while. I think her and her handlers expected a better showing and the leverage it would bring. But she is marketable.
What a sad man. The continual discounting of a young runner who has already achieved more than most runners will ever achieve in a lifetime speaks to your rather miserable way of viewing life.
There were 10 runners who achieved more than her in just one race.
I think she went in with tempered expectations, knowing what she was up against, but she’s clearly not satisfied with the result. I’d say that’s a good sign for her future. Sounds like we won’t see her race again until next year.

She finished ahead of a 23 yr-old that ran 30:24 at Prefontaine in May.
This is all so dumb. She also got beat by someone with a SB of 31:04 and finished (only) 18 seconds ahead of someone with a SB of 31:22. You can use statistics to say whatever you want. 11th seems a reasonable finish for her in that field if you ask me. If it was more of a time trial race maybe she would have finished a place or 2 higher, but also far back of the medalists.

You’re saying my post was dumb? This thread seemed to go way off the rails. I reminded readers that Valby the collegiate bested a seasoned 23-yr old professional that ran at Prefontaine in a time of 30:24! HELLO?!?
That little factoid, as far as I see, was never mentioned before in this thread.
But you offered nothing new to this thread with your post. Which one was more “dumb”?

What is the PB of the person that ‘only’ ran 31:04 in their build-up this year?
She bested Lauren Ryan; what did Ryan run at The Ten this year?!?

The whole discussion trying to nitpick who beat who in one race, yes including my post, is dumb. Your example says she did great. My example says maybe not so great. Which runners had good or bad days in Paris? Too many independent variables. In aggregate, in my mind, she placed about as well as might have been expected.

Let’s also not forget that in her very first outing on probably the most high profile international track event, the 21-yr-old Valby bested a 25 yr-old seasoned professional (you know, a non-rookie paid to run athlete) that ran a 30:42 on the roads in 2024, as well as a 14:45 5000m in June.

I’m not “nitpicking”, I’m just speaking facts on a thread that had gone off the rails speaking a lot of nonsense, like your ridiculous smarmy-parmby nonsense Mr. rbtrackfan (aka “fasttuohy”.) Seriouslyfasttuohy, is it any surprise you want to try and temper any enthusiasm for what Valby accomplished in Paris?

Gee you are sensitive....and clearly a Valby fan(atic)...I hardly said she did poorly. I believe in the first thread about how she did I said "She did fine". And I would repeat that today. But yes, in my opinion, citing performance relative to just one runner is "nitpicking".

I followed my original up with other runners in the race; I haven’t (yet) mentioned the seasoned pros Lukan, McColgan, or Van Es.
I originally chose the biggest scalp, the one that ran 30:24 at Prefontaine first, which isn’t nitpicking, compared to other posts before mine that said no one wants to sign Valby.
