Note from Rojo on 5/30: We are going to lock this thread to new posts and direct everyone to the new thread as I think it's not fair to ask newcomers to this controversy to read through all 8 pages. The new thread has a good summary. Here it is:
Probably most intense this time with the goal to achieve a fifth appearance as the statement says:
'AA would appear to have ended my dream of becoming the first female athlete to compete in the marathon at five consecutive Olympics and first Australian athlete to compete in five Olympics in Track and Field, altering the course of Australian Women’s Sporting History.'
In fairness, all would have been stiff to miss out and the fit to whole of career is maybe out of current selection. Good luck to Adams for a restored place in the men's field.
An important question to ask; Would Lisa be selected on the team if she was coached by Adam Didyk or managed by Nic Bideau?
This isn't the first Lisa missed put on selection. Her coach Dick Telford is highly regarded as he coaches a number of elite Australian distance runners including Cameron Myers.
I'm curious as to why Nic Bideau has so much influence and if times are not part of the selection why is Gen Gregson on the team with no real experience at international championship marathon racing.
Reports now it's going to go to the Court of Arbitration...
Not ideal preparation for any of the 4. Couldn't blame Sinead or Gen or anyone else having an absolute shocker this weekend at Launnie, Albert Park etc.

Happy to be corrected but isn't Gen Gregson now associated with NB as well?
Makes you think though, if she somehow gets the selection overturned, surely Jess Stenson is not going to just roll-over and accept it. This is such a mess.
Is there a possibility Jess may pull out due to the chaos this has caused? There is a lot of anger out there, not her fault obviously. I wonder have sinead and gen made contact with Lisa or are they close? Serious pressure now in Gen and Sinead in their upcoming races to perform.
Weightman now going to Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS). Decided this afternoon before the appeal deadline.

Why is Stenson the one whose spot is at risk? Why not Gen? Her only 2 marathons were basically time trials on a flat course in perfect conditions. It’s not exactly ideal preparation for a hot and hilly championship race.
AA is a disaster. Up until recently Bideau and Didyck were endurance leads employed by AA, while also acting as personal coaches and/or agents for Australian athletes. It’s a massive conflict of interest.
But then again, this is the same federation that named a meet after a guy banned for tampering with the anti-doping process.
The current generation of AUS athletes are some of the best ever, so hopefully they aren’t screwed by what is proving to be an inept, out dated federation.
UPDATED: Australian runner Lisa Weightman has turned down her final opportunity for an appeal amid the Paris 2024 women's marathon selection mess, meaning the team for the Olympics is final. Wide World of Sports revealed exclusively on Tuesday that Sinead Diver, Genevieve Gregson and Jessica Stenson (née Trengove) had been selected for the Olympics. Just over 24 hours later, WWOS has confirmed with Weightman's manager, Robert Joske, that late on Wednesday night she decided against taking the matter to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
