How many threads about Nico do they allow while there are no threads about Graham or Conor Mantz (current best us marathoner)? Im sure Citius appreciates all the hate views from the miserable letsrun basement dwellers whos overall approach to life is to resent anyone who is successful (especially if they are successful by being friendly to other people) and who think sports "journalism" should consist largely of trolling athletes and trying to embarrass/insult/piss them off ideally to the point of hurting/destroying their career or at the very least to sending them home "devastated". what a sad world a lot of you guys have willingly chosen to live in. Ill take the positive vibes and genuine enthusiasm of a group like Citius 1000 times out of 1000 compared to the letsrun approach. I dont care if its "good for the sport" or not. its good for my well being and the well being of a lot of kids who havent become jaded miserable nihilists fueled by resentment yet. I was excited when Citius started up. LRC needed a real challenge with someone else covering the sport/offering a fresh perspective. Citius had an opportunity & I feel like they've gotten away from what made them really good when they first started. It's not because they're better at using pronouns or talking about hot button issues. It just feels like everyone on the site is trying to build their own personal brand & become best friends with professional runners. That's where LRC still has them. They, whether you like it or not, embrace debate & challenge the sport. LRC can be a lot better in a lot of areas but not being everyone's friend has its advantages when covering things like corruption or doping.

I liked Citius at first but quickly realized that some (like Chavez) are more interested in being liked by the best runners - almost like he is desperate to form his own clique but can’t quite get there. I prefer my journalists to have some distance from their subjects. I do like Merber’s writing, though, he seems great.

I hope no one views my earlier post as there being a beef between lrc and citius. Upon further review, I've got no problem with some people going to a HS meet and some a college meet and enjoy interacting with their crew.
Chris is a very nice dude. I remember when he was in college and Meb won Boston and he came up to me midway through an interview I was doing with Ryan Hall in the hall of the hotel and Hall revealed he told the Americans to slow down so Meb could get away - and that might have helped Meb hold on for victory. He purposely didn't put up his anything about the interview as he felt like it was my 'exclusive'. He didn't have to do that and that article turned out to be one of the if not the most popular articles in letsrun history.
American Meb Keflezighi rightfully got the glory but his American competitors helped him out. The untold story of American Strong. This story went viral and was ready by nearly 200,000 people.
Long before Citius existed, I thought Merber was one of the most clever guys on twitter and I enjoy his column.
I coached Melly for a year at Cornell in 2012 and loved talking to him at practice even though at face value our conclusions are normally the opposite when it comes to politics as he was interested in the debates of the day. Ironically, in 2018, I presciently tried to warn him about the insanity of identity politics and bought him the following book and shipped it to him in MA, but sadly the left has tripled down on it:
Identity politics reminds me of Germany prior to WW2 or the US before Jim Crow and women's suffrage - your race, religion, sex or sexual orientation was much more important than your actions. It blows my mind that people don't realize the rise of Trump unfortunately is almost a direct response to it. My definition of woke is this:

I think it’s good we have LetsRun and Citius as they do slightly different things. Why do we want 2 media outlets that are completely the same?
Kyle and Chris are just major fans of the sport who are trying to make the sport fun and more accessible to the masses. Other hard-hitting outlets can ask the questions about doping. It’s not like these questions really get answered truthfully, anyway.
If you don't like it then don't tune in. I never read any of the articles here nor listen to the podcast. The content creators and their abilities speak for themselves. I don't complain about or start threads to criticize them, either. I will read and listen to Citius, though also not a stan. Tone aside, the latter has trained and seasoned journalists leading the way and it shows. The former is run by self-made bloggers who lack real qualifications, and it routinely shows. Just how I see it, not complaining either way. It's okay that people like that sort of thing. It is clear to me that skilled journalists can get subjects to open up about things with nuance and personal appeal and unskilled journalists shut down conversation with a bitter demeanor and clumsy, blunt approach. Some people are fans of the TMZ gotcha stunt approach and some will be fans of a more thoughtful Terry Gross style. Ultimately, when you self-sabotage access you certainly do your potential audience a disservice. That's a fact. And the LRC staff are clearly fine with that.
Who with CM beyond Chavez could be considered more of a “trained and seasoned” journalist than someone like Gault? I feel like you have a pretty subjective view of what those words mean.
and, just to be fair, it’s not like CM has never been unfair to LRC. For literally years, they used to have a bit in each interview where they asked athletes what the “meaning thing” they’ve ever read about themselves on LRC was. Talk about mudslinging.
What LRC sometimes will do is closer to this than anything CM has or ever will do. That's fine, again it appeals to a certain demographic that LRC prefers. Whatever "training and seasoning" any of the LRC crew may have, they will choose to employ in a taunting, gotcha style. Asking about Flojo in a moment that has literally nothing to do with Flojo is just silly. Hey, I'm sure some TMZ folks have impressive CVs, too. Sorry, I just prefer the type of quality that comes with someone who's been at SI and ESPN leading the tone over the consistent poor quality of the group that has one guy, an employee, who has worked at NESN and Behind the Basket. Yes, it's subjective. Just like it's subjective to cry "unfair" about a clear policy decision that has led to a message board that carries a hypercritical tone which any and all pros actively avoid. We're not telling each other anything we don't already know.
