You miss the point of what Wightman said. He didn't say Jakob isn't a good championship racer; he said he isn't as good as he thinks he is - which is true, because Jakob thinks he should never lose, and especially to "the next guy". But "the next guy" - in the shape of Wightman and Kerr - has shown Jakob can be beaten.
Imagine having the 2022- 2023 season of Jakob Ingebrigtsen and showing up to the WC not thinking you should never lose.
Imagine thinking you should never lose and then losing two consecutive championship finals in your best event.
I just love Letsrun every time Jakob get discussed. It sounds like Jakob is a horrible runner.
But every runner out there wants to be like him. Why? He gets all the money and the results.
Some track nuts will say it is all about the championship. Well, who made more in 22 and 23. The loser Jakob or the Brits?
When Jakob is running a DL, it is exciting. He delivers every time.
This is what fans and organizers want to see.
Who was the star of Pre23? Jakob.
Did anyone miss the Brits? Would they have added anything to that meet?
Now that running sub 3.30 is so normal that even Americans can do it. It is not certain that is Jakob is not winning, the two Brits will do.
Conclusion: Jakob is like Tom Brady. Yes a lot of people hate him, he does not win every time. But he is the star, makes the $ and win most of the times........
It sounds a bit obvious but you also don't get what Wightman said. He doesn't say Jakob isn't a great runner; he says he isn't always as good as he thinks he is in a championship setting. Wightman and Kerr's victories over Jakob in WC finals show that is true, since Jakob thinks he should never lose.
And again. Even though Jakob is not winning every race. He is still the main guy. He gets the money, he gets the attention, etc etc.
The only time the Brits get any attention is when they are talking about Jakob.
Think about that. An interview with the Brits when they are not talking about Jakob will be forgotten as quickly as a fart on the plains of North Dakota in January.

But they do get medals he can't.
You also consistently have bad takes, the same way Jakob loses

And as I said. It does not matter.
Jakob is the star.
I know it is hard for many to understand. But few will show up to see the Brits running vs Jakob. Even though they got the medals.
They are not interesting by themselves. It is Jakob who adds value to them.
And that is why he is the guy everybody wants to be.

Without a doubt, Jakob is the straw that stirs the drink. Kerr and Wightman and all of us fans are lucky to have him in the sport. This doesn’t mean Jakob will win every time, but he is the sport’s center of gravity right now.

If all three had to retire this month for good. Whose career (and medal count) would you want if one of those runners was you?! For most of us, Jakob 10 out 10 times.

That isn't the issue on this thread. It is that Jakob isn't as good at championship level as he thinks he is. Wightman and Kerr have both shown that.

You think it doesn't matter that Jakob has lost two consecutive championship finals in his best event? I doubt that he would agree with you. Nothing eradicates losses.

You wrote, "But they do get medals he can't." Jakob has Olympic gold in the 1500, two World silvers PLUS two World golds in the 5000m. I think he's a much better championship racer than you think he is.

They have two gold medals that he hasn't got. They beat him in WC finals in his best event. It isn't a discussion about who has more medals. It's simply that he isn't as good as championship level that he thinks he is. Wightman and Kerr have proven that without a doubt. He is beatable.
