Simply place a limit on how many posts a given user or IP address can post in a day or on one page of a topic.
Frankly, discussions get taken over by the same old posters who beat some dead horse into the ground, over and over, day after day. It kills a thread, and it kills the board.
We get it - we don't need to keep hearing it. This format allows some users to dominate discussions and do so over and over again.
Just limit how often they can post. That will force them to make their point, make it concise, and allow free discussion.
Doesn't work.. they are committed and will still be the more prolific posters and will simply use multiple handles (see Sally Vix) as they wish.
If the posting limit was based upon an IP address, wouldn't it solve the problem? If done by IP address, it wouldn't matter how many handles they tried to use, their posts would be limited from that computer connection. I bet LRC's technology would be capable of that.
The acknowledgement and understanding that we are living in the era of Human 2.0 and that we are witnessing the rise of the machines hence the crazy times and records being set since the vaccine rollout of 2020-2021.

I absolutely like this idea.
But what about a thread where someone is an expert or certified expert or a coach in a field where they are literally and figuratively the only one who should be giving answers (like the Deena Q & A).
Which reminds me. I'd love to see more athlete Q & A... and maybe not just elites.
That's a good point, but perhaps the expert who needs to answer numerous questions could group several of the questions into a single response of theirs. Yes, this would be a little cumbersome for them, but I believe it could be done, esp. if the Response function was tweaked to allow quoting several previous posts. I believe the forum used to have that capability, for that matter.
More of Jonathan Gault - his own weekly interview podcast and a weekly column. He seems to like to travel - send him places other than big meets and races to report on running-related things.
Rojo coaches Chris Chavez to a sub-5 mile.
gault is great but surely needs to be less gullible.
there was one time on the podcast last year where he said, incredulously - 'I shouldn't take runners at their word?!' when talking about them entering then pulling out of one race or another
You should not take your subjects at their word when you're a journalist. you can report what they say but that doesn't mean being a sucker.
Please less of the abhorrent political crap. LetsRUN.com Not letsmaga.com. Take it Twitter if you need to spout that crap. Stop letting it creep over this website like an out of control disease.

I'm not very interested in distances under 800m so I just don't click on them.
I've never had a problem.
If a topic doesn't interest you don't click on it.
If you click the "Running Threads Only" option on the filter pretty much all of the political threads magically disappear.
How about less editorializing when reposting links to other news sources? Like, we get it, you have a strong stance on how you think gender should be defined, but teh fact that y'all add some pithy remark about it after posting a news story about women's sports is getting a little old. (Also, as I think about it, I'm suprised y'all haven't been able to find any articles that describe the benefits of having trans athletes in sports, but I'm sure that's purely unintentional?).
Another example, the story you recently reposted and titled "The 100th Hakone Ekiden is this year - or is it the 99th running or 102nd running?" had the subtitle "Brett Larner explains as Japan's WWII atrocities complicate things quite a bit." didn't actually have anything about WWII atrocities, but just their participation about WWII. I mean, great clickbait, I certainly followed it, but seemingly not the most ethical way to promote journalism.
There were lots of times in 2023 when I catch myself thinking about leaving Letsrun because of 1) rampant right-wing, fox news-esque mania about transgender stuff, 2) the threads bumped to the front page about asking girls out, getting dates with girls, not understanding girls, etc., and 3) thread posts that are discriminatory, bigoted, etc.
It's not that I'm even super liberal or anything like that. I'd consider myself more middle of the road. But this toxic stuff is really tiring on a site where I'm usually looking to escape political bs from either side.
This is basically how I feel. These political threads are driving the mental health of these boards off a cliff. We're all people who like running, why can't we get along based on that? I come here to talk about running and most of the threads are political, abrasive, inflammatory, and intentionally divisive. In turn, this is no longer the most intelligent running board I attend. I started a couple threads to talk about training and was met with attacks from others for not knowing enough about running? I just like to bounce ideas around with like-minded posters. In the early 2000s most people loved to talk about this stuff and give advice. Instead it's insecure losers lording their "knowledge" over people.

This isn't hard.
Why is a running website your go to for your political views that no one asked for? It's just not necessary. It's divisive. It's often the same 10 people posting absolute drivel. And frankly, it turns off a large segment of track and field interests from using this website. Young people are turning to Citius or a plethora of other running sites that have stronger editorial standards and a frankly better coverage of the sport.

This doesn't work when you and your ilk hijack running threads. For example, someone starts a thread like, "Has Anyone Here Tried Zone 2 Training?". For a page or two, the responses are running focused and on topic with posters sharing their opinions on the headline topic. Then a minor disagreement flares up...
Zone 2 Fan - "Zone 2 takes time and you have to be patient! There is a lot of good science to back it up."
Speed Rules - "Science?! Yeah, OK. People can study and get the results they seek by how the study was designed. Other good science supports doing threshold work from Day 1. I don't see elites jogging at 12 minute pace."
Sensing an opportunity to crap all over a post and to get dopamine hits, a new poster enters the thread...
Adult Skeptic - "Like Fauci science? Of course, his "research" found vaccines safe and effective. Big Pharma and their allies love experimenting on idiots that will swallow whatever the government tells them to. You have to be a total loser to take the Pfizer poison!!!"
I Don't Like Adults - "Here we go! Name a study that proves 100% that vaccines kill and the government knows this?"
Adult Skeptic - "The truth is out there if you are willing to abandon the Jewish owned lamestream media's attempts to make you buy what the White House is selling. I'd cite many papers but you won't read them because you are an illiterate toady. I hear Mommy calling you!"
This goes on for many pages and a running topic is no longer a running topic. If politics and conspiracy posters would leave running threads alone, then your solution works. The trouble is that you and your likeminded friends do not respect boundaries and seek any opportunities to spread your POV regardless of the topic.

I don't create any of these threads.
Why is what other people do so difficult for you to deal with?
Maybe those 10 people enjoy bickering with each other.
If you go out of your way to click on a thread that is clearly not running related just so you can get offended that the thread isn't running related that's a YOU problem.
