I'm not sure why NBC thinks we need so many pointed "What went wrong?" interviews immediately after the race from athletes who just had crushing disappointments.
Never understood why track fans think this is rude. In most sports with media contracts athletes are contractually obligated to do press after every game, and get intense criticism (+ big fines) for skipping out on interviews after big losses.
If you want to be a major sport with serious media attention, meeting with the media win or lose is part of the deal.
I did not say it was rude (nice projection though), I questioned if we need so many of them. There's been a lot. "Walk us through what went wrong on this botched handoff" is not terribly interesting viewing.
AROP is the clear best 800 man in the world right now. you can't use that tactic unless you are just better than everybody. puts himself in a 1 second hole and then runs an extra 5 meters on the third curve and still destroys everybody.
Amazing from Arop. I doubted him so much but he's improved tactically. I'm also buzzing for Pattison. I got downvoted for suggesting he could take a minor medal. He ran superbly, staying on the rail and not panicking in when he got overtaken. British men back in the 800 medals
Can’t argue with a win but I’m honestly not convinced Arop ran a tactically smart race. He was almost out in lane 3 throughout the 3rd curve. He just looked plain better than anyone else during these championships.
Pumped for Coevett’s guy Pattison honestly. Fun race. Arop did the Kinyamal tactic to perfection. It was a good race for Wanyonyi too. Fought like hell to hold onto his spot.
Thought Arop might have gone a little early and wide and would run out of gas, but he was just too strong. I had 1 and 2 reversed, but I should have picked strength and experience. Time for Sumner and a completely new generation of US men in the 800.

Lewis Johnson is the worst. Like what are they supposed to say? The questions are garbage. How are the athletes supposed to answer that other than how Kerley did.."I fukd up."

We can say him and Wanyonyi were in a different class. But I think Wanyonyi had the stronger tactical race controlling the whole thing and running in lane 1. He did have to use energy to hold his position and that might’ve cost him some energy at the end. Arop has hit the form that Korir hit last year in the DL final where he ran a tactically risky race and still won. I’d agree Arop is just in sublime shape. Probably 1:42.6-7 shape. Wanyonyi is a few tenths off that.

Lewis's lack of EQ combined with Ato constantly giving bad takes is quite the mix.
I'm also really happy for Arop. He's one of those guys who does so much work on the circuit. He's like Aregawi and McSweyn, I'd like to see them gain some hardware at some point as well
