That would only be the case because the athletes who have previously been in similar circumstances had successfully appealed the finding of a missed test.
I have yet to hear the particulars of what Amusan’s is appealing, however the above story is consistent with previous cases. If that is in fact what happened, Amusan was in her home during the specified hour, the doping control officer followed the letter of the law and Amusan was marked for a missed test.
That was my point: such a "missed test" would not count towards the three whereabouts failures.
Without knowing the particulars of Amusan's case: since she is already charged, the AIU already asked her for her side of the story months ago, and dismissed her excuse.
However I recall that Gabby submitted her final evidence for whatever reason only after she was charged, not right when asked for an explanation. That may have happened here too, so there is still a chance for Amusan.
They are allowed to try to reach the athlete by phone, but not required.
Right, thank you. I used the numbers from the Coleman verdict, which have now been updated.
4.8.8.5.a: More specifically, the Athlete shall provide sufficient information to enable the DCO to find the location, to gain access to the location, and to find the Athlete at the location with no advance notice to the Athlete.
4.8.8.5.d: Once the DCO has arrived at the location specified for the 60-minute time slot, if the Athlete cannot be located immediately, then the DCO should remain at that location for whatever time is left of the 60-minute time slot and during that remaining time they should do what is reasonable in the circumstances to try to locate the Athlete
Comment to 4.8.8.5(d): Where an Athlete has not been located despite the DCO’s reasonable efforts, and there are only five (5) minutes left within the 60-minute time slot, then as a last resort the DCO may (but does not have to) telephone the Athlete.

After she won world's in a world record I coudln't help but think," How long until she gets popped?" While she technically hasn't been found of doping, whereabouts failures are usually smoke rising amongst the trees from a distant fire.

Whilst I understand, you also have to factor in the multitude of increased testing she would have got from that point on. She was often seen recording her tests and posting them on her snapchat when she was giving blood etc., and at the New York meet she was observed instantly asking for her phone after her race so she could change her whereabouts to Atlanta which is where she was going next. Combine this with the opinion held by many athletes that AIU partially use whereabouts to statpad and justify their existence, I don't find it hard to believe that there actually was no intentional foul play here. I hope that that's the case, and I hope that she'll be cleared if innocent.

Problem is that there needs to be nothing intentional for a ban.

I think that argument holds a lot more water if it wasn't 3 times and your out. Maybe she's got a good case. We'll see.

I couldn't help but think she should could star in a remake of the Teenage Ninja Turtles...
Seriously? They bust Americans too. Christian Coleman was the odds on favorite to win 100m gold and was busted for the same thing. Do you think they are seriously playing favorites over at WADA and USADA? If that were true they would have let Coleman's whereabouts failure slide. They didn't.
Team USA Sprinter Christian Coleman Suspended 2 Years for Missing Drug Tests. Christian Coleman, the reigning men's 100-meter world champion, will not be able to defend his title for the next two years after he was suspended for missing a series of drug tests, according to USA Today's Tom Schad.
Nigerian news site The Nation is saying that she's been cleared to compete in Budapest, but they're literally the only one saying this. Can't find any official confirmation yet, so who knows 🤷

No reason was even given in that article for why she would have been cleared. She was listed on the start lists by Athletics Federation of Nigeria yesterday pending her appeal to the AIU, maybe they got confused?
Seems odd that article has been up for an hour now with no additional confirmation
Indeed, and wouldn't the news have come from an official channel first? Perhaps The Nation got inside info, but I'm thinking they've been misled or are perhaps just hoping for the best. Would be quite the farce if she gets to race.

LOL. Really? USADA actually did let Coleman's whereabouts failure slide, by changing the time from 7:55 to 8:01, which brought it past his special hour. That in turn changed it from a missed test to a filing failure, which resulted in backdating. That in turn brought it above 12 months, and he was let go. Classic example of gaming the system, don't you think.
Fortunately the AIU caught him thereafter with another missed test, bringing it to 3 within 12 months, as the last 2 hadn't expired yet. Note: AIU not USADA.
