I’m gonna shake things up with my prediction 1. Nuguse - 3:32.81 2. Kessler - 3:33.13 3. Prakel in a blanket finish over Hocker, Holt and Centrowitz - 3:33.29, 3:33.31, 3:33.47 and 3:33.58
Shocker, I have Nuguse winning. This year he has rlly proven himself as a competitor and with his times, he is a safe bet to be the champion. 2nd, Kessler; after beating Teare and dropping a 1:45 in the 8, I have a lot of faith that he can keep the ball rolling at USA's. Tough choice for 3rd but I have Teare only cause I think he is gonna have his training line up to peak at USA's. Its hard not to pick the defending champion to podium either when he is still so young and has improved so much over the last year.
Some of my guys on the bubble are Hocker, Holt, Green. Out of these three, I have Holt. This may be kind of shocking when you put him up against Hocker and the NCAA champ but after that win at the grand prix in hot an humid weather along with that HUGE workout we all talked about, I think Holt will be in the best shape of his life come USAs and will be able to make it through the rounds pretty comfortably and latch on to a fast race in the final; and with his 4th place finish last year, he has shown that he can compete in a tactical race which will probably serve him even better. However, so long as Nuguse is in the final, I would not hold my breath for a tactical 1500m.
welp, i'm an idiot. S/O Drew Hunter and everyone else who beat the defending champ last night
I actually think Teare is probably the most equipped runner for any style race. Not saying he’s a lock. But if the bell lap was hit in 2:50 instead of 2:35, I wouldn’t be any less confident in Teare.
He’s proven to be in shape running 3:32 in May. It’s quite possible he & Hobbs would’ve run 3:30-31 if they went to Oslo or Lausanne.
And we’ve seen him win slow races with a 51 last 400m like last year.
Why would any of these 3 want to run the first lap under 60s (pushing the pace) and risking (helping) that someone else gets standard.
It will be a slow race
Nuguse still wins. Hobbs and Hocker top 6.
This isn’t true at all. Those 3 have the time standard but Prakel, Gregorek, Holt, Hunter and Wynne are all qualified by world ranking at this point. Nathan Green might jump into a qualifying position if he places top-3 tomorrow, and anyone in the final would have until the end of the month to chase 3:34.20.
If anything it’s the opposite for those 3. They’ve proven they can run fast, so a faster race helps their chances of finishing top 3.
I predicted Nuguse would win in 3:35.2 but after watching the heats I’m inclined to think it might be a little faster. Now that one of my picks (Teare) is out, I think it’ll be Nuguse, Hocker and Kessler.
I’m not sold on Holt competing at this level. I never thought Green had a better chance than Waskom, with his low mileage and 3:37 PR, and I don’t think either are quite there yet. I don’t think Centrowitz could run faster than ~3:36.00 in a time trial. Hunter already had his magic moment and it took everything he had. Josh Thompson isn’t fit enough this year and is a ~3:35 guy at top fitness anyway. Gregorek can make teams when the top talent is lacking, which it isn’t this year. Wynne will probably never make a WC or Olympic team. Sam Prakel would be my choice to upset the “Big 3,” and I kinda hope he does, since he’s been a consistently good performer for years who shows up and races tough but has never quite had his day, and is rarely talked about.
After rewatching the three prelims, I think it’ll be:
1. Hocker
2. Nuguse
3. Waskom
4-6 will be Kessler, Holt, and Prakel.
People are sleeping on Waskom. He pulled even with Nuguse with 100m to go in the prelim and looked great, took a few looks around and realized they were well clear of the field and jogged it in. I like him even better in a fast race.

The only thing to keep in mind is Nuguse’s heat was by far the fastest out of the three heats. The legs of the guys in Nuguse’s heat won’t be anywhere near as fresh as those from the other two - Hobbs basically qualified with a 3:43 compared to Nuguse’s 3:35.
How many 20 year olds world wide has run 3:31 or faster? Don't act like he's some special talent. Only US runner that's good just so happen to not have any American heritage. This country has all the money and technology but nowhere near the talent of these poorer countries. Fact is American distance running has been and will be for the foreseeable future a joke to the rest of the world, other than one or two guys that pop up out of nowhere, there's no threat coming out of the states. It takes natural talent and determination to get to the top level. Americans are too lazy and worried about likes, social media and what others do to be on top. Just look at how many guys on here whine and complain daily, especially when accusing people of doping because they run fast.

Hocker ran that 331 in the OG final after heats and a long season, which is a recipe for injury.
if Hocker stays healthy, he's on the podium in the next few years.

Waksom believes in himself you see it. These college guys always eat when they come in with that type of mental (E.g Murphy, Hocker, Engels)
