Barringer didn't fold under pressure, she had a physical issue. Tuohy bombed and was too scared to line up for another race. It was a terrible precedent to establish.

Almost eight years later while producing the documentary series "Jenny Simpson: Transcend," I knew that we had to cover the 2009 NCAA Cross Country Championships. What I didn't know was how much I would learn about Jenny and...
Funny because there is a chapter in a book about sports psychology that talks about Barringer's race and that it was psychological. Clown.
These KT threads need to be registered users only, that will slow down the trolling. They don’t have the b***s to say this stuff if they risk getting banned.
Banning is done by IP for unregistered users. It is more comprehensive. Banning a registered name actually does less because they can then post under an unregistered name.
Not really. Ghidey was 10 Times better at her age. Winning some slow slow races in school really is meaningless. She wouldnt even win a U18 Championship in ethiopia.

You seem to be very knowledgeable about the topic of banning. Thanks so much for this helpful information.
The book is “how bad do you want it?” Excellent book with many psychological stories about pro cyclists, runners, triathletes etc and Pre graces the cover.
But yeah they concluded that there was nothing physically wrong with her. Almost like her brain forgot how to run for a couple minutes.
Suprised there hasn’t been a comparison to Cooper Teare’s final XC race. Granted he wasn’t the favorite, but everyone prob saw him in the top 5/10.
He seems to be doing ok now so I’d say Tuohy will be fine lol

Good point about Teare and Barringer.
Schweizer was also the favorite to win XC in 2017 and finished 11th, 30 seconds behind Kurgat
I am sick of these coaches using very talented athletes to win NCAA titles and not putting the athletes best interest first.
The women's 1500 was proof that Touhy was breaking down physically. Then the tweet by Laurie about Katelyn not feeling good followed by a DNS.
Shame on you Laurie.
Look at Chererek. His pro career has been riddle with injures bc he was used by Oregon.
Laurie, did you ever consider redshirting Katelyn? Why does she always have to double?
The OP is so so so so so WRONG.
Henes has done the opposite of run someone in the ground.
She ran 2 meets before ACCs. At ACCs, she ran 1 event. At regionals, yes she ran two but do you think it's hard for a 4:06 woman to run 4:19 and 4:14? Or for a 15 falt woman to run 15:31? At NCAAs she's ran 1 event as well.
Counting heats and prelims, Tuohy raced 9 times outdoors and five of those were 1500s.
Maia Ramsden, who won the NCAA 1500, has raced 13 times outdoors this year. Did Gibby run her into the gorund? Both her and Tuohy ran 10 times indoors.
FALSE. It's not the number of total races, it's how hard she went into the well in each one. She didn't race a lot outdoors because she was already burned out and they knew it.
1. Indoor 5k record attempt in Boston
2. Mile record attempt in NYC
3. 3k record attempt in NYC
4. DMR record attempt at JDL
5. Hard efforts at ACC's
6. Hard efforts at indoor nationals
7. 1500m record attempt at Wake Forest
8. 5k record attempt -15:03
9. Triple at Regionals
10. Potential triple at nationals.
THIS IS ALL AFTER A FULL XC SEASON.
Tuohy should be coached like a pro athlete. She had a legit shot to make the World Championship team and they squandered it. NCAA championships and records are SMALL in the bigger picture of making the World Championships and 2024 Olympics. The most important meet on Tuohy's schedule is the USATF Championships.
