Guess I’m the only guy here that thinks these announcers aren’t bad!
Anywhoo, that kid in the orange jersey, American Fork, don’t sleep on that kid! lol
I was rooting for that kid down the straight for home, since he put in so much work pacing the last half of it. I thought Birnbaum was out of it with 400 to go when he started fading. But then that guy, wow! What a freaking race!
Fastest junior ever, breaking lex's mark from last year. Verzbicas' record isn't getting touched for a while. Maybe Leo could run low 8:30s for the full 2 this year but I quite don't see him 9 seconds faster than this group

The pace took its toll on some very good runners, probably most noticeably Kipyego. He was at 8:59 but that's not what he wanted. On the other hand look at all the guys with monster PRs.
Having seen Birnbaum a few times before, the anticipation was palpable as he hung on for dear life with two laps to go, made contact with a lap to go, and as he took control down the final straight it all was seemingly pre-ordained. Off a strong pace his kick is seemingly bulletproof. Long levers just prying the win quite literally from poor Simmons' grasp.
Simmons is a monster who will crush it for the forseeable future, and Hansen was almost as heroic.
All this, sans Lex and Gorze, and paced by Sahlman who beat them all last fall!!!
Yikes. The deepest distance year in prep history, hands down.

With the improvement he’s made in the last year and ~15 months left to go, can’t rule out Daniel Simmons breaking the 8:29 2mi. record or Rupp’s 13:37.

What happened to Sahlman?
He paced after winning the 800 earlier. Led through 1600 in 4:18.
