Another way to “run in place” is to pull the foot straight up to the butt, instead of reaching the knee out in front like in that video clip. I think both have value as a training exercise, but what’s in the video probably isn’t the closest way to mimic running form. It might be harder/more strenuous.
I will be following this thread… I am a bit older than you and am pursuing a slightly slower time but not far off… I look forward to your updates… best of luck!
Hopefully there will be more coverage of athletes like this moving forward!
Let’s watch Masters Athletics! This is a quick summary of MastersTube and what the goal of this channel is! Finally a place to view Masters Athletics! The pl...
This thread sets the record for the quickest crash of a "dream performance." one 7 minute mile run and he is injured and done! At least Coe-bra and the Swedish track coach lasted a couple months.
Remember the thread from years ago about Rono? Wanting to set a masters world record or something. My memory was all he did was do saunas and little to no actual running. Lol.

I vaguely recall he still did something like a 5:30-45 mile with a huge gut though. Someone else will probably have the particulars.
Not sure about the 20-year layoff, but the Masters Rankings website all-time 1500m list (no mile list so add 20 seconds) has over 100 M40-44 performances below 4:00 (or approximately 4:20 mile). However, for US rankings from 2019 (prior to Covid) the fastest M40-44 mile was 4:37.02 (age 44).
Bernard Lagat ran a 3:57.91 outdoor mile and a 3:54.91 indoor mile in 2015, when he was 40 years old. He also ran a 13:06.78 5,000m (at the Rio Olympics) and a 27:49.35 10,000m (a PR -- I think it may be the only 10,000 he ever ran) in 2016, at 41; a 1:02:00 HM in 2018, at 43; and a 2:12:10 marathon in 2019, at 44. Does the Masters Rankings website rely on self-submissions or something?
includes results from masters meets (five-year age groups from M/W30-34 up - although USATF Masters had added a M/W25-29 age group). In addition, masters can self-submit (if they ran/jumped/threw in an open meet) but must provide verification in the form of meet results.

He needs some magic! The Swedish online coach is the very best. Think I remember the great Swede is COACH JS ?
I never quit running but at 40, no way could I get close to my highschool mile, also under 420. I was still around 440 at 40 but if you even get to that count me impressed after not running for so long. I'm guessing at least 2 years to even figure out how fast you can go. I wish you luck and careful with injuries.
