This. Rojo's really really dumb argument against this is that these boards are also for topics that HE likes to talk about while running.

I’ve seen certain boards where if there is a certain number or proportion of down votes in a post, it says “post hidden for low score” and you have to click it to show the post. They aren’t necessarily censored, it’s just an extra step to have to view what is likely a stupid comment.

Anyways, our family friend worked in trust and safety for Facebook for a few years. We know how challenging and never-ending the battle is.

This person is a prime example of the need for registered only posting. A punk who throws rocks and runs away. "the explicit intent to harm and kill people" I am taken aback by the audacity of such a statement and how the unregistered are allowed carte blanche to throw around blatantly false and highly offensive accusations.

I know the regd/unregd debate has been going for a long time and the policy probably will not change.

The comments and insinuations that vaxxes are causing cardiac events in anyone and everyone are reckless. They're also not based on anything from a credible source. It almost seems as if anything that is bad that happens to anyone is because of being vaxed/boosted. Sometimes it almost seems that the misfortune does not even need to be health-related. Those making the unfounded accusations should be banned for a long period - more than 3 days. Perhaps a month. If they come back on and continue with the conspiracy BS, a lifetime ban would be appropriate. I know that this is not reality because the conspiracy theorists drive traffic (meaning other whackjobs) to this website.

I would like to see less objectification of the women runners. They are athletes, not objects.

While traffic is driven to the site, there are also a good number that do not like the toxicity here and stay away from the place. Reddit had a thread about it...

I would like to see more coverage of road races other than the marathon distance.

The road circuit used to be covered more it seems.

Remove any threads, posts that make unfounded accusations of PED use. Possibly ban the person making the threat.

Keep calling out the actual PED users who fail tests.

Agree that diversity is a good thing.

True story. One of our mods is an African immigrant. Well maybe his parents are from Africa. He's at most 1st generation American. I had stereotyped him as a dorky white distance runner until he told me.

This seems highly unlikely because regular mods can not see all the posts by an IP. I see there is a way they can see the IP if they are banning you but we can remove that.

I could see someone guessing your names by posting style. You then post about that and mods just delete it.

But it's concerning enough I will look into this.

We have discussed this. Keeping it in the index just takes up space and would be pointless unless you kept the title there which you can't do because some threads are deleted because of the title. We could show the reason for people who had the URL.

We have debated showing the reason individual posts are deleted but often it is someone reports a post and selects a reason. Sometimes they might select "factually incorrect" because they disagree with what the poster is saying but in reality the post was deleted because it was "off topic". The point being I don't want random people debating why posts were deleted which would sidetrack threads even more.

Without domain expertise, and even with it, moderating on the basis of "factual correctness" is probably not possible.

A policy of confining such discussion to a single topical thread and deleting such posts in other threads without prejudice is probably the best that can be hoped for.

The topical threads on political hot button topics are still dominated by low quality posters, but at least it's contained in one place.

There is a button to view running only posts.

We have sub forums for specific interest. We do not use AI to tailor everything to you.

To be honest I moderate all the time and don't see that much objectification of women. But if you see posts like that please report them.

As for the vaccine posts we want most vaccine posts put in the one vaccine thread. But it is my understanding that there is scientific literature that supports the idea that that vaccines lead to cardiac events in particular in young males. That doesn't mean one way or the other you shouldn't get vaxxed but I am up for letting people discuss this.
You're saying that isn't the case.

Our general philosophy is not to be the arbiters of truth on things we don't have a lot of knowledge about. And we've seen much of the information on Covid has evolved so let people discuss it in limited threads.

Like this thread now should not devolve into whether the vax can cause some heart issues.

Improve your 'Search' functionality for searching previous posts. The results don't seem very good. Sometimes I'll remember something that was in a thread, but can't remember or find the exact thread so I search for it, and the results I get back seem pretty bad and I never find the thread again. This could be pretty tough since it's like building a search engine, but it'd be useful. Maybe there are some simple things that could be done to improve it a bit.

Going back to the doping list/Hall of Shame, as mentioned a few pages back: you could have a constantly updated, searchable one, linked to prominently and permanently from the home page.

For example:

Name - events - banned for - banned from-to - banned by - country - coach - agent - shoe company

Mike Smith - 5000/HM - testosterone - 02/2020-01/2023 - AIU - USA - A. Blue - B. White - Saucony

I would consider relenquishing this quite clever username if the Mods would agree to the following terms:

1: A global apology for the diminishment of personal expression on LRC.

2: Enrollment in an enhanced educational institution that teaches the sacred rights of

3: A commitment to being fair and balanced.

4: Enrollment in program to enhance one's ability to understand the concepts of irony, sarcasm, hyperbole, and other forms of nuanced humor in online communication.

We've always said we will let people make drug accusations or discuss drug issues. We used to receive hate emails for letting people discuss Lance Armstrong.

I guess we really should let people say "I think Lance Armstrong is a doper" . Than "Lance Armstrong is a doper" but with the latter without evidence they are saying "(I think) Lance Armstrong is a doper"

But should we let people in every BTC thread throw in the "dopers" comment? We could tighten it up.
