Entertaining. Thought for this year was that both Valby and Touhy were not yet ready for the Olympics. Too many seasoned pros below 14:50 and 31:00 for the college kids to have a chance.
You can't do much when you are injured, but Touhy must now be kicking herself to see that 15:05 made the Paris team.
Congrats to Valby, 2 fine performances. Touhy will be back for the 2025 world trials.

As I posted elsewhere congrats to Parker for running the times and making the team, but with "assistance" from a few of those "seasoned pros" who got injured or chose other events. Tuohy being injured could not take advantage of that so agree somewhere she could be kicking herself.

Valby benefited from a weak American pro field and got into Olympics without meeting the standards. Good for her, but not sure if it is a good thing if she becomes an also run in the big stage.

Most of the field will be an "also ran", including the other Americans.

In fairness she did run the 5000 standard so push comes to shove she could have gone that route without any "*" though she seems to have qualified under the rules for the 10000.
Nobody about Tuohy anymore. She’s washed. Valby beat her by 42 seconds and all they can come up with is “weak field.” GTFO with that, you’re embarrassing yourself.
You either meet the standard or you don’t. Putting an asterisk besides an Olympian is like labeling her as an affirmative action entry. It just doesn’t look that good.
It’s even better that Valby had options. She could have run either event or both in the Olympics, after beating Tuohy by 42 seconds in the “weak field.”
Best of luck to Tuohy going forward. I hope she can regain her competitive form, but I will say this. Her fanbase certainly qualifies as TOXIC. You’re not doing her any favors….
