My impression is that the course was very flat. A grass running track. So - fast. Is that most of your x-country courses? My experience of x-country was hills, swamps, fences - and agony.
This course is pretty flat - some tight turns, soft grass but nothing resembling a hill. But the OSU course run last week and where the championship will be is very different. Videos on YT.
I like McCabe, and I hope she has a good season. But she is one of the runners I keep expecting to do well on the big stage.....but doesn't seem to come through in those meets. Hopefully she had a good season.
McCabe just won Live in Lou 5K again in16:22 - 5 seconds faster than last year. Not the toughest course but she was in control. Bethany Graham the FR from Furman 13 seconds back.

correction - 16:23.9 winning time and Graham is not the FR - that is Mulhern who was 10th 37 seconds back.
Plenty of people work hard and do all the "right" things and aren't successful. Genetics and talent play a much bigger role than people acknowledge... Katelyn is on a level that is not attainable through just working hard.
Like she was standing still when Tuohy was done messing around and decided to hit the 1500m burners!!!! The only way Tuohy does not win in November is if she is injured, sick, or falls down. Crickets from Cook fans now! Being at the race I can tell you one thing….Tuohy had a lot more…..scary!!!!!
I was at the race as well. She was racing and made a strong effort to break away. She was NOT jogging or easing up at the finish, that is simply not true. She wasn’t in a battle where she had to sprint, but she was running very hard and was fatigued as anyone female would be who just ran that pace. Katelyn is not guilty of lying or making up stories after the race, but she was pushing very hard and it showed. Some of you posters like to exaggerate to a staggering level;(
I agree with this post 100 percent. I love the "she wasn't even trying hard" crap that you constantly hear after races. Sure, she probably had another 25 seconds in her, lol!!!!
H'm. I think this is a matter of semantics. Tuohy was clearly racing to win, but was running in a completely controlled manner and was not seemingly going all out to the line. That does not mean she was not running fast or putting in an effort, but that she had something left in the tank. She clearly was not maxed out, and could have run faster if pushed. The way she is taught to kick is to save something for the last 100 meters. When she is really going hard you will see a second kick which we did not see yesterday, just a steady and very fast drive like in the 1500 race at ACCs.
This reminds me of the argument when she broke the course record at Sunken Meadow (very hard course) and the coach had said that it would not be an all out effort but a work out type race. People were questioning that given how much she crushed the record by (Cuffe was the previous record holder), but others pointed out that she broke the course record on courses like Bear Mountain in "workout" races, then came back later that season and broke her own record by 30 seconds. It happened on other courses she had run also. I'm not suggesting she would lower her time that much from yesterday or that this was just a "workout" effort. But she clearly was not killing herself to the line either. She had another gear she did not have to use.
Like the rest of us I did not see the full race but Tuohy looked like she eased her foot off the gas approaching the line. There was no second kick or drive to the line. Chelangat looked like she was racing to win like she did last year. She generally races to win. She was not tempoing with her teammate, who she gapped at the line. KT just has that 1500 speed that her competitors do not have. She blew it open in the last K.
Not discounting the home course advantage that OK State has, but assuming everyone is healthy I would say her main competition will be Valby. I am sure the UF coaches are in the laboratory with her as we speak, and I have this image of Ivan Drago's training montage in my head.
Valby and McCabe are the two relevant unknowns, but after Tuohy’s ND performance, I wonder if something like Ingebrigtsen’s dominance in the 1500 is emerging in NCAA XC. The Canadian’s tenaciousness and racing brain is, in my view, second to no one in the college ranks, but even if McCabe smokes the middling field Sat in Louisville (which she should), she needs to raise her level even higher than last Fall to challenge Tuohy in Stillwater. Regardless of how Nats plays out, everyone on this thread should be happy next Summer when both athletes make national teams for WC 2023. Early days, still.
Something like Ingebrigtsen's dominance in the 1500? So losing the most important meet?

Some places are just flat and the courses reflect the local terrain. That said, there does seem to be an unfortunate (IMO) trend towards easier courses (and fast times) in the US.
Important question here, Tuohy ran this course last year with the time 16:23.7 and then on track she went 15:14 and then earlier she runs the same course with the time 15:50. What do you think Katelyn's 5000m time trial is? Could she possibly go sub 15 at 20 years old?
More likely sub-14.30 next spring. Right now she is the overwhelming favorite for Paris 2024 in whatever event she chooses.
After Paris, can see her being the first woman under 3.50, 14, 29 and 1hr for the half. She is THAT good. Besides, all the Ethio's are most likely dopers anyway, so she is probably the only clean elite runner in the world. The only thing standing in her way is that Nyonsaba guy (who should be banned from beating the real girls).
Heck I wouldn't put it past her becoming the first woman under 4.00 for the Mile. But then Semi would have a heart attack, so maybe KT might hold off on that just to saves some lives.

WELL you're right ..but one thing to add ..she works like nobody else !! I don't think anyone worked harder than her when she was in middle school and high school and even today her work ethic is still the same
NC State top runners that are on strava erased all their recent workout posts from the last 4 months and some hide their accounts. They should ask their freshmen to do the same, they write the workouts in the caption💀
Folks probably should also keep in mind the difference between 5k now and 6k at Nationals.
^^ This and Nationals really should be 8K for both sexes.
No it shouldn't! Like 95% of woman runners and coaches don't want to do any more than 6k... And most fans don't want it either! It's just bored and boring maniacs suggesting this!
Why 8k so more injuries! So more no name runners have a chance? 8k xc is like 10k on the track and 10k is not a common or popular distance for college woman. Dumb ideawith no upside but sadomasochistic appeal!
