It would be more impressive if it was reversed. Gaining muscle is just eating a ton and lifting a lot of weight. But try losing all that muscle to get your weight down to become a faster distance runner. That is WAY harder.
Agreed. Not sure why all these scrawny runnings on this site are so shocked with hall’s transformation. It really isn’t that hard to gain muscle when you stop running and lift a ton
Agree. He was always a narcissist but now it’s just more gross. Sad.
Judging someone like that says a lot more about yourself and your own insecurities than the person in question. If you were happy within yourself you most likely wouldn't be seeking out people to target and put down. Ryan actually runs his own personal training program for hybrid athletes for a huge number of clients, . Do you know part of what's required for a business like that to be successful? Advertising including photos and video clips of the style of training he takes people through and the types of physiques they can obtain.
Natural ectomorphs don't become Schwarzenegger on exercise and diet alone.
Correct. It also requires sleep.
Also, Hall is no Schwarzenegger.
My “resting” weight is probably 165-167–that is, no weights, and no endurance exercise.
When I was that weight, back in HS, I could easily have shed 25 lbs had I just eaten less. Was doing a mix of distance and other sports. That would land me about 140, say in “elite” distance form.
The heaviest I ever got was 195, I was huge but not super-lean. Was big and very lean around 188. I actually had a gut, of muscle!😮
That’s a difference of 48-55 lbs, representing a huge percentage—and I was never focused on bodybuilding-type stuff, just Olympic lifts and powerlifting lifts. Prob could have hit 200 lbs very lean.
All clean. My good friend of the day was even more extreme, far more. It can be done, but requires dedication—and you will never achieve the cut-ness of a drug-fueled bodybuilder.
I have thinned out on purpose, now around 177-179 and lean. When I do weights I regularly drink about 1.5l of water, and get that “pumped” look. LOL ! Maybe all his promo shots are when he is pumped -up.
"You had a gut of muscle"...Lol....Yah sure, it was all muscle...you are lying to yourself like most do. If you had taken a water submersion body fat test you would see the reality.
You make accusations with no facts. Have you done any reading on Ryan Hall at all? He is no narcissist. He also admits that his doctor gave him testosterone in order to beat low t. Read up on him before judging.
There are plenty of posters on here who beat their low T everyday without any help.

Ryan has openly discussed how he struggled for many years with low T as an elite marathoner and tried multiple natural ways to boost his T levels to no avail. He has now been retired from competition for nearly 7 years. If he wants to get some TRT treatment to put him back into the normal range from his doctor who has medically prescribed it then that's his choice. It blows my mind why some of you guys have such a vendetta against him because of this. If you have it in for him then you have it in for every other person on the planet who gets TRT therapy legally.
Honest question. How do we know he is on steroids?
if he’s not, I feel bad because it shows he has way better genetics than me :(
You really don’t need exceptional genetics to get to 190lbs at 5’10” with like say 12% BF. Just need to lift and eat. Genetics probably matters for maximal muscle potential but Ryan isn’t anywhere near it.

He doesn’t have a job. he’s devoted his life to this. I’m guessing you have other obligations.
You’re 100% right. I did not take time into the equation. Just like an actor gearing up for a film, if he has ample time and no other obligations, he could probably continue to make considerable gains because he doesn’t have to go to a job everyday + take care of his adopted, already-grown kids.

Why did he get low T in the first place? He was on Thyroid hormone and went to Dr Brown so would not be surprised if it was due to side effects of doping. Now he's doping again to put muscle on. The guy is a fraud.

I agree with the first part, but the last part, not so much. I think everyone has a set-point, about which lean bmi can vary, especially in the up direction. You have no idea of his natural potential for lean hypertrophy, in fact he may have exceeded it.
Look, if we’re talking real roids, he could have had these gains in 4 months. Not kidding. T is weaker, esp at typical “medical” doses.
So the guy is on test and bulks up, who cares? He’s not competing against anyone, so for him it’s a sort of recreation, or a path to self-identity. Fair enough.
I do get the point that if he’s using now, that might suggest that he was using in his competitive days. For sure it’s a factor to consider, but all the other factors must be considered. The fact that he admits to doing test is a big deal for me.
Now he might need to do it the rest of his life—just like people who take anti-anxiety and other medications, instead of going another route. Not a choice that I would ever make, but it’s his life.
What would chap my azz would be if I was somehow paying for this, through insurance payments/tax subsidies, ie just being a part of the so-called “healthcare” system. Idk.
What I do know is that I’m glad I’m not in his shoes.💪
