Sprinters are born. Not made. Anyone can be a long distance runner. Not everyone can be a sprinter. To be a sprinter, you are part of an exclusive club which you wish you could be a part of. Sour grapes and jealousy sounds like to me.
They are most certainly made. It takes quite a drug cocktail to make a successful sprinter. Anyone can be a sprinter but not everyone can be a long distance runner. You sound butthurt that someone called out your sport for what it is. A farce. A club? A club of good for nothing tweetledums maybe.
Give a drug cocktail to you and see if you can even run 13secs for the 100M. I am confident that you would still not be able to run it faster than 15secs, round about the average time for humans.
It is incredibly difficult to run faster than 10:3 for the 100M. Elite sprinters running sub 10 make it looks easy and we have come to expect it, but running 10:00 and sub 10 is an exclusive club that call for specific genetics. You are born with the innate ability to run fast and training develops this innate ability. No long distance runner will ever be able to be an elite sprinter. If they could be, they would be.

I already run under 12 seconds with no training. I just don't see what the big deal is. And I don't intend to destroy my body with drug cocktails for a measly 2 seconds to be world class. This is why I feel anyone can do it but I do not think anyone can run sub 1:29 for a 1500. Or sub 12:50 for 5000. These actually do take specific genetics which your typical sprinter just does not have. You can load them up on EPO for years but they'll never go under 13:30 for 5000. This takes someone born to run fast. You can view something like 100m vs 5000m kind of like the 100m being WWE wrestling and the 800-10000m the real deal freestyle wrestling. The WWE wrestlers many times get more attention but everyone knows WWE is a joke and know who the real talents are. 100m is just a made for crowds circus event while the stuff happens at real distances. Just too limited of a human being a sprinter. It tells you nothing. Just to give you a.general sense, take Christian Noble, the last place finisher in the US 5000 trials. I have more respect for his pinky vs the top 5 US sprinters whoever they are
I agree, distance is much harder. Do these people know how hard is to run a fast 5k? I compete in 800 and 1500 and even for me running a fast 5k is a hell on Earth.
I do some 200 repeats with mates from my club who are sprinters and you already know how it feels to me. Challenging but easier than 400 repeats which i do for my 8/15 training.

Just take a look at a good 8/15 runner and a 100/200 runner.
The former looks like he suffered and came back from Vietnam.
The latter looks comfortable, bloated, like a gym bro who ate cheeseburgers and injected roids.
Whether you like it or not the winner of the 100 meter on the World stage really is the most impressive thing in track and field considering virtually every athlete on the planet has tried sprinting at one time or another.
We have all been in the stands as the sprinters line up for the 100m, the excitement is obvious, everything about the event is far more intense/exciting than them lining up to run the 5000 etc.
People come to track meets to be entertaining, that 4x1,, 4x4, 100, 110h, 400, 200, is excitement. Watching little people running around and around is go to the head time.

You certainly can run the 40M dash a little under 12 seconds. So can the average human.
To be a sprinter, you must have fast twitch muscle fibres. Without these, you will be a long distance runner. This is scientific fact. Ergo anyone can be a distance runner, but not everyone can be a sprinter.
You are just jealous you are not part of the exclusive run like a cheetah club.

Don't know why you're so hurt but the fact is nearly no one has gone and tried a 100m sprint. Instead, most have tried running at various distances and those that found out they could run stuck with 800-5000, and those that couldn't hack it went to a ultra short distance, or just didn't stick with running. Whether you like it or not 100m sprint is the lady Gaga of the running world while actually talented musicians, the real runners (800+)aren't heard about much

Only a braindead, clown crowd would be genuinely excited about those. Several posers prancing around for a few seconds...then watching that 4x??? Omg

Are you frustrated to hear that anyone can run a short, clown distance? Awww
To be a WWE wrestler you need even more fast twitch muscle. An equally joke of a sport
To be a distance runner you gotta have the perfect muscle combination which sprinters just can't attain. So pathetic to watch a grown man collapse after running 500 meters. Sad. Would they even be called an athlete at that point??
Is this the reason why broadcasting cuts half the distance race to show even more boring adds?
This is the same broadcasting that tries to convince everyone that men can have babies, to celebrate men winning in female sports, etc...so you'd think that would clearly communicate to you what a clown world they live in. But perhaps you align with that?
