But that $125k could go towards football instead. You guys don't seem to realize that even rich people won't just throw their money away. If they can put more into football, they will. Why woukd they choose XC over football? They won't.

Jim Haslam ran track back in his day along with playing on the football team.

The big donors support more than just football. Here is a list of those who have paid millions for their track and stadium, track and field center, etc. They are swimming in money.
"The Boyds have been great,'' said Beth Alford-Sullivan, director of track and field and cross country. "(Randy) has a great passion for the sport of track and field, especially distance running. Randy and Jenny have been committed to helping us create a championship setting here.''
Yes but they won't because every dollar that you want to fund XC could fund football. You don't seem to grasp that.
You don’t seem to grasp that the Haslam’s do care about Track too. Randy Boyd was a big donor before he became the President of the whole University of Tennessee system. I doubt he can donate anymore but he won’t be President forever and when he is done he will love to donate again.
Tennessee has an 18,000 square foot facility for rowing. A sport that isn’t even offered by the SEC, and that no one cares about. I’d say they’ll find money pretty easy to shell out for a sport like Track and Field that has history, and that people actually do care about around Knoxville.
Close enough, most of the Tennessee roster over the past 8 years is from less than 150 miles (2.5 hours away)
It definitely can be done, especially if the program is doing well. Tennessee is one of the few schools that will always pull great athletes because of the name and the pedestal that UT athletes are put on the moment they arrive to campus.

According to the current roster, 7 of 19 boys (make it 7 of 21 with the 2 new recruits) and 4 of 23 girls are from 150 miles and closer of campus… try again. That was the downfall of TN and the distances. JJ Clark started ignoring the in state kids. Would even send a rep to the state XC meet.
And the two new recruits are from Nashville, TN and Bristol, VA... which is on the Tennessee and Virginia State Line. Brother is also on the team. Lets try again!
