Ok, I won't beat an old, probably dead inside horse any longer. Nothing anyone will say will convince you that hip hop is music. That's unfortunate for you. Luckily, you're in the extreme minority in the world, so it all works out.
Unless it is musical (use of any of 12 notes or any combination of those notes into chords or power chords), then it is not music. Just because you rap over music doesn't make it music. I could stare off into space while music is playing in the background, and that doesn't make my staring off into space, music. I could solve a Rubik's cube over background music, and that doesn't make solving the Rubik's cube, music.
Flagpole you are 100% if you think the drums isn't music, it is without question music.

Yes, rapping is not music. ANYTHING you do that is NOT musical is not music. Music MUST include one of the 12 unique notes or combination of them into chords or power chords. So, do I consider drummers to be "musicians?" No. They are percussionists who support musicians.
The dude you linked here IS doing some singing, but the Kendrick Lamar clip in the initial post has no singing. He is rapping (no musicality) over music that he didn't write or perform.
Rapping is an art form. It is not music.
Also, to someone else's comment, I know full well the influence Kendrick Lamar has had on young people AND musicians...that doesn't make his rapping, music. Rap is not music.
no way...Drummers can definitely be musicians. Sure they are "keeping the beat" to support other instruments but there are definitely some that the drumming comes to the forefront with the use of all the toms, cymbals, bells, etc...
How could you say there is no musical aspect to this?

Other than the singing at the end, I heard ZERO musical instruments, and ZERO musical notes. So, drumming, not music.
As posted on last page, the drummer is playing about 10-16 different types of drums/cymbals, all making different sounds/notes. Is this different than a xylophone which is a musical instrument?
I actually agree. I just wanted to discuss Kendrick Lamar's new single and video, but the thread got hijacked by a couple of old foggies who don't think hip hop is music. They couldn't skip the thread?

Anytime you have to use profanity and the N word knowing the influense who have over young minds isn't cool. Talking guns and violence is the smart thing to do right now, how damn stupid is that?
I love music that is trash that nobody who really knows music would care about.
