I wish this site, and other running media, would do their jobs and be actual journalists and not fans. Stop trying to be liked by the athletes and do some actual, in-depth journalism and ask hard questions. Pretend you are Woodward or Bernstein when asking the BTC questions.
Yes, “pretend” is exactly the right word. The difference is huge between being an actual journalist who needs to establish facts, gather evidence, write a draft, have multiple revisions/questions by editors, and a running website like this which is mostly very biased heresay.
It's pathetic. These people aren't your friends, they are the subject of your journalism. Suspicious runners should be treated like Oliver North testifying to Congress. Drill them.
When she announces she left I hope she burns everything down in her wake.
I hope she answers the following questions:
1. Did Shelby live with the group while on Altitude?
2. Do you believe Shelby is still being paid by Nike?
3. In what capacity did Shelby train with you? Did she warm up or cool down with you? Was she present at all for your workouts?
4. Did Shelby train individually with any of the members from BTC?
Bowerman and Jerry have taken legal advice as to how far they can push the boundaries with regards to training Shelby. surely they wouldn’t be stupid/arrogant enough to ignore it.
Yes. People tend to underestimate 14:26 because of all the fast Ethiopians (incl. Hassan) and Kenyans.
Top 5 all time non-Africans:
1) 14:23.75 Shobukhova 2008, pre ABP, banned drug cheat 2) 14:23.92 Houlihan 2020, banned drug cheat 3) 14:26.34 Schweizer 2020, banned drug cheat’s teammate and supporter 4) 14:26.76 Klosterhalfen 2019, under banned drug cheat coach 5) 14:28.09 Bo 1997, EPO era, Ma’s army
Top 5 all time Americans:
1) 14:23.92 Houlihan 2020, banned drug cheat 2) 14:26.34 Schweizer 2020, banned drug cheat’s teammate and supporter 3) 14:38.92 Rowberry 2016, under banned drug cheat coach 4) 14:42.64 Huddle 2014 5) 14:44.80 Flanagan 2007, coach of banned drug cheat
Also note that drug cheat Jacobs isn't even in the top 5 anymore, and how much Houlihan and Schweizer are ahead of the next best Americans.
Good post, let me speak to this a little further.
The two fastest XX women not born in Ethiopia or Kenya, apart from banned drug cheat Liliya Shobukhova, were both born in Iowa about 3 years apart. One of them was doping. It’s up to you to decide whether you think the other, her club mate and training partner, was doping as well.

Why exactly would a suspicious runner sign up to be “drilled”?
there are plenty of outlets for runners to share whatever curated information they want with no need to answer difficult questions. If letsrun pushed people harder, those people wouldnt talk to them at all. they already dont- lrc has been more pro shelby than any of us would like, but shes not sitting down to an interview with them

I'm not going to call someone a drug cheat just because they happen to be born in the same state as someone else who used drugs.
People have used performance enhancing drugs in all 50 states. So according to your logic that means everyone is guilty? You're stretching too far.

Excuse me—I realized after posting that my logic could be misconstrued, as I didn’t hash it out well in my post. I don’t mean to say “Iowa has a state-sponsored doping program backed by Chuck Grassley and Governor Kim Reynolds,” or “You know those Iowans, morally bereft as they come.” All I mean is, as an Iowan, I thought after their incredible 5ks “Wow! What are the odds? How is it that basically the two fastest non-East African women ever went to Iowa High Schools at the same time I did?” And then when Houlihan was busted I thought “Oh, I guess that’s how.”
