As someone else said, this topic is neither nuanced nor complicated; biological males have an advantage over biological females and should not be allowed to compete in the women’s division of sport.
If you think this is the argument being made, and the crux of why one might think that the op-ed is incredibly unfunny and distasteful, then you are indeed one of the dumbest numbnuts in town.
I believe that you believe there is a bigger argument to be inferred from the satire. You’re projecting your own feelings in between the lines of what they actually wrote. Now, in the interests of fairness, you should be more clear about your motives. If you can cancel (or at a minimum have them grovel at your feet) LRC over an April Fools joke you’ll have brought greater awareness on behalf of the LGBTQ community?
This "op-ed," satirical or not, is further evidence provided from the BroJos that attending and graduating from an Ivy does not necessarily mean you are smart or intelligent.
Perhaps we should have written that article instead: "World Athletics says it is getting rid of women's category for sport."
Could argue it's more of an April Fools vibe to get the same point across. We talked about this on the Friday 15 podcast we just recorded at end. For everyone who is saying we're transphobic would they say anyone who says Lia Thomas shouldn't be allowed to compete in elite women's sport is transphobic?
Do you not read your own thread? Or just being intentionally obtuse? Almost no one on here is saying Lia Thomas should be allowed to complete. But most seem to be calling you transphobic or in the very least, have very poor taste and judgement regarding this issue.
Why do you keep trotting this strawman out? Very few people on LRC think Lia Thomas should be competing against women. Most of us think you are being a transphobic a-hole with your approach to this topic. Is that not clear?
Wejo.....your silence on this is deafening.
Why do you keep trotting this strawman out? Do you really not understand from this thread that very few people on LRC think Lia Thomas should be competing against females but very, very many people think your 'joke' article was some real a-hole transphobic BS?
They keep trotting this strawman outside because they are very clearly too stupid to understand the difference.
They are not stupid. Here is the truth that you likely do not want to hear Karen Rodgers. Many of us are uncomfortable with this transgender issue. I am on your side here though. But in all honesty the subject makes me a tad uncomfortable and likely the Brojos too, although I respond to my discomfort by thinking I should have compassion and acceptance for everyone and that my discomfort is irrelevant. So many of us grew up not thinking gender was fluid so you must understand that a new paradigm is uncomfortable at first. I am very bright but I am still struggling to understand it all. I am far from alone.
I will make it incredibly easy for you.
"I do not believe we should ignore the physical advantages gained by going through puberty as a male. I also do not believe anyone should be misgendered, ridiculed, or made to feel bad about their gender identity".
It's truly that simple. Taking the time to write a satirical article that is far from funny or original and extremely tone-deaf is exponentially the most difficult course you can take here.
As it's written now it's really directed to the people who will read it and think we're serious in the article.
At one point, some felt everything was tied too directly to Lia Thomas, who we have sympathy for as a person.
Yeah because serious articles usually use strikethrough all over the place. The biggest joke here is your claim of sympathy. I'm done with letsrun. Y'all can wallow amongst yourselves without me.
I would like to ask some of you…people like Karen, people in the “woke brigade,” of which I guess I am a member, what is the solution for the transgender in athletics issue? Do us “woke brigade” members have a solution?

Yeah sure but do you have a solution for the transgender in athletics issue?

Are you really still unclear bout that?
If not......why pretend that you are?
On the contrary, I found the piece insightful, timely (which is important for comedy) and of cultural relevance. But make no mistake, it's for adults! If tears come quickly for you then it's best just to sit this one out.

You might be the litmus test here. They should have asked you if you liked it first and almost anything you like should be discarded.

The sad but true answer is there is no great answer or solution. I just know what the answer is not, and it's not what we're currently doing.
Probably an "open" category, kind of following the model set forth by the Paralympics. That protects women's sports while giving trans athletes the ability to compete.
In all seriousness why does this transgender topic have to stick with transgender women? Transgender males, biological females or people born with a vagina if you must, are competing athletically with biological males too! Oh the shock! It’s cause those types of “wrong people” don’t have an advantage? Maybe because they blend in better societally as far as optics go?
Are we protecting the women who feel in a competive disadvantage here? True American Christian morals? The very decency of the Founding Fathers archaic view of the America even? Nope, this is just good ole boy talk. Just call it like a duck you spineless mods.
Here’s the thing, all of you who defend the biological females against the trans females can proverbially fall on your moral swords. Somehow, again the shock, this topic devolved into some kind of defense against those showing their transphobic (non-rainbow?) colors.
Sincerely,
An Actively faithful Christian dude - married - 3 beautiful girls (and a son to boot).
Intelligence matters here. I am not offended. I find you to be a primitive redneck mind. Are you offended?
Not in the least. Thanks for asking. It must be frustrating to openly want something so badly that 'matters.'
Again, why, as an adult (presumably), are you offended at a satirical piece?
Did you have a dad growing up? Fragility is one of the indicators.
I am not offended at the piece. I am able to extricate myself from my own situation and see that others might be offended. I am not offended. Why would I be? No offense has been committed toward me. You are a bit slow.
There is a category, the mens category. Just because they would not be competitive at all is no reason to give special treatment. I think it's just as fair that I am not biologically or genetically gifted enough to run in the Olympics.
And I believe those who are trans might even enjoy their respective sports in spite of not being the best in the world.
I am able to extricate myself from my own situation and see that others might be offended.
I just knew you were special. So the world that you want to live in is one where no one gets offended by anything.
In this new world, what would Chris Rock and Dave Chappelle do for a living?
No I am fine with people being offended. You seem quite offended that some posters did not like the article. Let us all offend one another. Isn’t that why you are here?
