Why does Chris Rock have to file charges? Why can't the police just arrest him? It is obvious that Smith battered Rock. If someone is stabbed does he or she have to file charges? The police just arrest the stabber.
I just literally couldn't care less about pop culture celebrity drama or news. Keep acting and making mediocre movies, but I don't care what happens outside of that.

At that, his wife has cheated multiple times on him, and made him look like a fool publicly. From a psychological perspective, maybe all the angst and the desire to seem like a desirable man came to the fore? Subconsciously, he’s trying to prove to not just his wife, but also himself that he’s a worthy mate.
It wasn't staged. If it was staged Chris Rock would have come up with a more clever response. They (Rock and Smith) have access to the best writers in Hollywood. Professional writers would have written a better script. You could tell Chris Rock's response was spontaneous. I'm sure Will Smith is having second thoughts right now.
It is getting a little old trying to raise a culture of young men when color is the basis for what is acceptable. I mean this sincerely, if Jawad Howard or Will Smith we’re not who they were, both would never work in their fields again. it is also frustrating that men have to grow up still discriminated based on what they look like. human condition

I’ve been rewatching The Sopranos awfully hard, so much so that a man striking another man over a joke about his wife (and honestly, if it was a joke about her alopecia, Rock should NOT have gone there) makes perfect sense, and also so that it seems like a punch would have been the more “respectable” move.
Meh. The joke was a tiny bit in bad taste, but so what? She's not bald because she's terminally ill. Machoism takes a back seat to proper behavior. You don't assault a man because he said something about your wife, and you certainly don't close your fist and do it as you think he should have done.
The whole thing makes Chris Rock look like The Man, especially now that he's said he's not pressing charges. It didn't phase him. He could talk the rest of his life about how he didn't even feel it if he wants to. Also, unintended consequences for Will Smith, but it takes any power away from Jada. She could have excoriated Chris Rock afterwards and probably gotten people on her side there. Not now.

Perspective is a hell of a thing. My wife is bald because of chemo. If a work colleague made the same joke about her , I do believe it would require a squad of police officers to drag me a away.

1) You are right that this is a WIN WIN for Chris Rock and correct that Chris Rock wins in this case.
2) Chris Rock has a net worth of $60 million though. He didn't need this attention. He's famous enough and rich enough.
3) Jada and Will have an open marriage, and Will has reportedly boned his fair share of women, so Jada getting some isn't really a thing here. Part of their agreement.
