I don't think it's a coincidence that both D'Amato and Molly Seidel had huge suspicious performance jumps in recent years. I suspect a common link especially knowing there are Americans like Coach Eric Lira supplying PEDs to elite athletes.

Molly’s improvement makes a lot more sense compared to Keira’s. She’s also 27 as opposed to 37, 4x NCAA champ as opposed to a 6th place best finish at NCAA, a 5K PB of 15:15 as opposed to 16:08, a World XC and Olympic bronze as opposed to zero US teams, and every single career marathon falling within a 2:24 to 2:27 spread as opposed to a 2:44 to 2:19 improvement. I’m not worried about Molly. She’s very talented, is likely right at about her peak, can consistently place top 10 in marathon majors and can sneak a podium finish if the race is in tough conditions.
its sooo degrading to people with real full time when runners proclaim themselves as full time workers. for ex yuri kawaguchi also claims he is workin but in reality he has an easy job (assistant type of job at school w little responsibility) with workin hours adjusted to his running (from 8 or 9 to 3 pm with a long lunch break like 45-60 min).
all the runners i have known who get real full time jobs like docs or somethin in that capacity and work like a regular worker has to turn down their running aspirations a few notches.
i particularly remember one runner (age 30+ , 3.39 at 1500) who just finished his doc degree. in the beginning (like the first and maybe second year) he was able to compete ok (thnx to his solid background) but then he had to quit.
simply, its not possible to work a REAL job full time and still be able to compete at the top.

After Houlihan there is no use in blindly defending any athlete. You don't know what happens behind closed doors. Not saying D'Amato is doping, but it's not at all unreasonable to assume she is. An AR that couldn't be touched by Kara, Shalane, and so many others, was broken by a 37 YO mom of 2 who hadn't been in the sport in years? It's not unreasonable to speculate. And I agree with letsrun, it keeps the sport cleaner to know that fans aren't just blindly following everything they are told.

If you do not allow speculation, you are not having an honest conversation about the performance. Sorry, but that is the state of the sport these days.
IF she were a former NCAA champion, had gone on to run some high level times at other races, and then after running close to the AR, breaks the AR there would be MUCH less speculation that she's taking PEDs. Going from rec runner to AR holder is going to bring out ALL the questions and drugs are part of "all".

It's just how I typed it out on my phone. I suppose it's like when people say I qualified for "Regionals, sectionals, nationals , nattys, or ncaas" when the formal race titles for all those events are singular without an (s).

You make a good point but I think the opposite:
She's been out of the sport and came back- why not? She loves the sport and has the time and family support.
Who knows how good she'd be if she never quit or if her career would have ended early due to injuries or personal factors.
I think we have to give the benefit of the doubt and let them fail a test.

Kara and Shalane were track runners for years before they went to the marathon. It's not unreasonable to speculate that they were already past their peak when they went to the marathon. The world record is so much lower than the U.S. record that it's a joke. If there was ever a soft American record, this was it.
I do think it's fair to speculate. But that is not is what is going on in these doping threads. It's flat out assertions that someone is doping without a shred of proof. That is bad for the sport. Because anyone who does something great is immediately dismissed as a doper and then there is much wailing about how the sport has been ruined. Trashing a runner's reputation is not "good for the sport". Last point: Regarding Houlihan - her dramatic change in appearance was evident to everyone. I think very few people were surprised when she was busted. But you had letsrun editors or contributors rushing to her defense. But everyone else is fair game, I guess.

BTW - Her appearance has changed as well - not in the same manner of Roidohan but still noticeable.
If she was East Euro or African she would be getting roasted.
