Lewis Hamilton could have driven this course in less than 1 minute, so maybe it’s best if we just end competitive running altogether.

Reina ran 14:36 at Balboa with old style shoes. Take away 66 seconds and he runs 13:20 at Running Lane.

It is sucky that the first time back its not FOOTLOCKER. I wish it was. return to normalcy.

All in all, Eastbay holding a championship instead of Footlocker is a WAY better "look" than Nike scooping up piles of entry fee and swag tent money at regionals across the country, and then not bothering to hold a championship.

Reina ran on a course that still had grass on it. The course today is loose dirt and sand for large parts. Slight alterations over the years as well. NFHS changed how a course should be measured in 2012. Course is different in the 80s than it is today. That is why I used modern course times for comparison

today s race, no one wanted to lead the race and caused it to be slow. It made for a more exciting race. Newbury Park had 3 in front of the winner of todays race.

It IS relevant though that both Hough and Ritz ran the same state meet course, and Hough really didn't get close to Ritz's 14:10. Balboa isn't a comp, but MIS is.

If Hough wins today and finishes right with the NP boys at Running Lane, yet can't sniff Ritz's jock... Ritx is still easily the GOAT.

Is portage also a comp? Because Riley was faster than both ritz and fisher there

Sand for large parts? that would be a large exaggeration. a little sand at bottom of dog loop. other than that the dirt is pretty hard packed.

I will agree that the course is different in than early years, which I guess was your overall point.

The Balboa Park course changes every year, isn't even the same as it was in 2019 and is totally different from decades ago. The terrain is fine but constantly changes from year to year. However, the course itself, with the constant turns, narrow paths, and lack of clear markings on where to run, is ridiculous. This was especially egregious this morning, as there were several wrong turns in both of the races which allowed the fields to quickly catch back up to the leaders.

Eastbay should find a much better location so they can have a real cross country course with a legitimate layout.

Sophia Kennedy's dad won the final, and he also won the NCAA D1 cross championships in his first year of college. Has any other parent + daughter or son pairing bettered their 1st + 7th place results?
