Conner Mantz may try and break Ryan Hall's American record in the half marathon THIS weekend

Some people are so absurd. There is NOTHING disrespectful about stating that you are going for someone’s record. It is actually a compliment to Hall. Someone else wants what Hall has: the record. Now of course the record is not weak at all. However if the shoes give Mantz 30 seconds in a half marathon, for example, then Mantz is thinking he likely doesn’t even have to be as good as Hall to get his record. Of course Mantz will not get Hall’s record but he is paying Hall the ultimate tribute in saying he wants what Hall has. It might be disrespectful if Mantz said he wanted Hall’s wife, however.

Using Rojo logic, I predict Mantz will run 61:49.

My reasoning is that his 10,000m PR is 5 seconds per mile slower than Marc Scott's. Scott has run 60:39 for the HM. 5 seconds per mile slower than that takes us to 61:49. Flawless logic, can't argue with it.

Rojo you are wrong here. Mantz may be a better runner than Lara but it is currently much closer than you appear to understand. Their personal bests are fairly comparable and Mantz is only one year younger than Lara. Mantz may be more of a gamer but they do not appear to be far apart in talent.

I don’t know what’s stupider about Rojo’s outrage that anyone would think DARE to think that Lara might be on the same level as Mantz at the half marathon.

I mean, let’s see, Lara has just run a blazing fast half marathon while Mantz has never run one.

Also how many people with Mantz’s 10k PR HAVE NEVER run a half marathon as fast as Lara.

A fifth year with an early birthday is 23 until the spring. Mantz is 25 in a week and is classed as a junior. So he is very very generously a 6th year junior with an extremely early birthday.

December is not an extremely early birthday. Typical school year cutoffs are before school starts, or around September 1. I’d assume a quarter of D1 athletes have a birthday earlier in their graduation year (i.e. Sep - Nov) than Mantz. Not that this nonsense matters.

Lara progressed a lot after college - you can’t extrapolate like that for everyone. Otherwise we’d be saying all 27 high kids have a shot at running the AR in the half.
