I don’t know which Rupp race you are referring to. The East Africans have become powerhouses in the events 5,000+ and that is not something Pre had to deal with. Yes there were great Europeans at his time but it is a deeper field now. I thought this team was pretty whatever but Fisher finishing 5th is a strong result. 27:11 is by far the worst PB of anyone around do give the man some credit in my view.

I disagree. 10k at global champs often leave the door open to kickers. Despite what the collective wisdom of LRC believes, we're not in an era when global finals will regularly be run at 26:40 pace. Fisher will need some luck as he doesn't have the raw talent of the very best guys, but I can see a chance coming around again. He has another Olympics and maybe three World Champs ahead of him.

Canada do have the 12:51 and 12:47 guys so..... And what do you know about canada its way better than america at least people don't get shot every 5 minutes

Belatedly ... a great race and congratulations to Fisher. The first non-African runner to place in the Top 5 at the Olympics 10K since 1992, except for Galen Rupp. And at such a young age. Very impressive, no reason why he couldn't take a medal in Paris.

It's not like days of Ron Clarke and Dave Bedford. Anyone that can run well under 27:00 is fast and can run about 3:50. Fisher has no speed advantage and he's going to have to be just as good to win a medal.

Pablo, the US is not a singular entity.

Some people like Pre’s guts. Others can’t stand him and his low race IQ . Some people like how Grant raced. Others not so much. All these opinions can exist together.

You do this all the time. You create narratives that don't apply. It has nothing to do with how faster Africans are now...Jesus, do we compare today's NBA players against the gravity challenged NBA of the 50's?

It has to do with racing style and how you competed during your era. I recall only two Americans after Pre show some sack in a final...Scott in 1984 and Kennedy in 1996. And Kennedy did run against Africans.

Was Pre's 1972 effort low race IQ? Should he have let Viren and Gammoudi go and focused on getting the Bronze.

He raced aggressively and pushed the pace. He rarely lost to American runners but couldn't beat the more talented runners in Europe. If he had sat and kicked or surged in the middle of a race, he probably still couldn't have beat the best European runners.

Fifth place is very respectable. Something to be proud of and it should be appreciated.
