Cocaine is an actually dangerous substance unlike Richardson's marijuana use. This is troubling unless he has trace amounts because it showed up in a milder street drug inadvertently. That would still be bad, but at least it would be better than a 20-year-old with a coke habit.
Sorry, man, but that's such a boomer view on drugs. Cocaine is no more dangerous than weed. Tbh, I've never known anyone have any issues taking cocaine (other than heightening how annoying they are) but I do know someone who suffers from cannabis-induced psychosis and has had to be institutionalized. So, you know, don't tell me weed is harmless. They're both recreational drugs, they both deserve a ban
Not sure who taught you about drugs. Cocaine is a highly addictive drug and its physical effects of elevated heart rate and stress on the central nervous system is especially dangerous. Marijuana does not pose any physical life threatening issues. Your "cannibis-induced" psychosis argument doesn't hold water. Its called "Getting High"

Well no.
In Lagat's situation he failed a drug test because there was EPO in his sample, and then he hired the best people in the business for getting people off doping charges and lo and behold, his B sample was negative.
There was no cross contamination there, Saugy clearly threatened to blow the lid off something and that's how miracles happen children.
Haha! That is a take from a place of ignorance. You should actually read up on the Lagat case.
The world has moved on, you can't use the 'Kenyans are genetically incapable of cheating' excuse anymore which was commonplace by you guys back in the day when Lagat was cheating.
An EPO positive explained away in a weird manner by an 'expert' from someone we now know was almost certainly cheating anyway (even without that positive) is just too much of a coincidence.

Epic beautiful post by Elliot. I really liked the "baby spitfire" tag.

Well, look at that... It turns out the report was false and he didn't have cocaine in his system after all! Yet, many of you were so CERTAIN of his guilt. Could it be that WADA gets it wrong sometimes? Is this a one-in-a-million mistake at the lab, or is it conceivable other WADA tests have been wrong in the past?
"He definitely used it recreationally. Very stupid decision, especially before the Olympics."
"What an idiot. He has to be banned."
"Poor decision making and I hope the guy involved gets his life straightened out."
How about some mea culpas, corrections, apologies from these users?

I don't need to apologize for anything. I don't work at the lab. I wasn't leveling personal accusations against the man. I was simply replying to all the idiots that were claiming that cocaine isn't a PED (it has been used as one since at least the 1920s).
"You have no idea what the Tour de France is. It's a Calvary. Worse than that, because the road to the Cross has only 14 stations and ours has 15. We suffer from the start to the end. You want to know how we keep going? Here..." He pulled a phial from his bag. "That's cocaine, for our eyes. This is chloroform, for our gums."
- Henri Pélissier speaking about the 1924 Tour de France
I feel sorry for the guy if the lab messed up. If he has a decent lawyer, he should get compensated quite well for whatever libel he endured.
Nobody can beat Shaun Barber (pole vault) claiming his Craigslist hooker had cocaine of their lips which “unknowingly” got into his system.
“Barber posted an online advert on Craiglist asking for a “sexual encounter of some sort” with a woman who was “drug and disease free”.
"At no time during my actions, did I even fathom the possibility of being able to be contaminated with cocaine. This is a learning experience that I hope other athletes can learn from as I have."
To be the type of person who could not fathom a Craigslist hooker being a habitual drug user..ignorance is bliss I guess
No. This is a terrible take.
I found a lot of interesting information here. A really good post, very thankful and hopeful that you will write many more posts like this one.

This is correct. Also he was on the point of transferring his allegiance to the US, and saving American distance running, so I suspect they put some pressure to bare.
As far as I have read, there were 2 track athletes in the 90's who returned a positive A sample for EPO and then a negative B sample. Lagat - a 3:26 runner at the height of the EPO era - and Marion Balco Jones. Seriously, what are the odds of such a rare event ( a 'false' EPO positive) happening to a 3:26 1500m runner? And a Kenyan as well, with the two next Kenyan 1500m runners to get anywhere near Lagat's times (Kiprop and Manangoi) both ending up banned.
She dont lie She dont lie She dont lie................................................
How was it cross contamination happened in the testing lab? Was another sample present that was positive? Was cocaine present in the lab?
Also, I can (and do) literally grow a pot plant in my backyard. Cocaine is a highly refined substance that takes a lot of work to make. It's not like people are just chewing on Coca leaves. If coca grew where I live I would totally grab a few leaves and get my chew on every now and then.

People who are in the prodromal period of schizophrenia (ie, those who have not yet had their first psychotic break), can be pushed into their first psychotic break and the cycle of hallucination/delusions by marijuana use. For most people, this isn't an issue but for a subset of people it isn't just getting high.

To be fair, he probably will be right about the "Amost runs like a mad man" part. He just is wrong about the Brits being good.
So, if you were to use coke, how many days out from a race would you think the dangers of using the coke would diminish before a race. Or even the affects of coke would not help or hurt someone’s performance… What I mean by that, is if I do coke on a Saturday and run the following Sunday (8 days), would there be much risk? Test results from urine will not come back as positive but what I’m actually wondering more about is the effect on the cardiovascular system…. Maybe we should do a few tests ha…. But is anyone has knowledge it would be openly welcomed
Not a gas guy but I believe these contracts roll off at the end of 2022 so materiality is fairly small for now.
