Hocker just peaked. Jakob and the rest of them will peak a month from now.
I'll be astonished if Hocker makes the Olympic final.
Centro, on the other hand, has a legitimate chance to make off with another medal.

Is Jakob running the 1500 or 5000? Or trying to do the double?
Focusing on just the 15 after learning from Doha. Especially with the practically impossible program to run both.
You cant medal from the stands

I bet you said the same when he ran at NCAA's.

....
I wondered the same, but would like to hear from some high level coaches on this one.
Round one doesn't start till Aug 3 (finals on Aug 7), so he has about 5 weeks to rest and re-peak for the first round, which should be a cake walk. For a 20 yr old stud i'm thinking that with a good coach that's possible, though not guaranteed.
Hocker, while impressive, is not in the same league as Jakob. The gold is Jakob's to lose at this point. Centro has a real shot to medal............if they play around and let him dictate a slow race, well - we saw what happened in Rio.
This is how I imagine Hocker fans to think:
"Jakob BETTER run:
- 3:45 at Bislett Dream Mile
- 3:27 1500m at Monaco
- 1:45 impromptu 800m thrown in before Olympics just to show dominance
- Get the double Olympic Gold in 1500m and 5k at Tokyo"
"If this doesn't happen, HOCKER > JAKOB !! LUL !!"

He hasn't done it. That's the data dude.
It's a fact that Jakob I is the 8th fastest all time. It's a fact that Hockeris 424th all time. It's a fact that Jakob I is 7 seconds faster than Hocker until he proves otherwise.
Those are facts based on data. You have conversion speculation. If conversions were accurate then Hocker would be 26 seconds slower than Jakob I in the 5000, but he is 32 seconds slower (and he should be even less than 26 based on your conversion to what he should run in the 1500 that for some reason he hasn't managed).
CH mile PR: 3:50.6
JI: 3:51.3
No conversion needed!
As if the guy with the best PR always wins the race lmao. Championship races are slow, it often comes down to putting yourself up there, and having a good kick on that night.

Realistically Hocker is about as good as Jakob was at the same age--which is a hell of an accomplishment in itself and bodes very well for Hocker's future--but it is probably not realistic to expect Hocker to hang with Jakob this year. If the final is an absurdly slow tactical race like 2016 (and if Hocker makes the final in the first place) I like Hocker's chances, but otherwise no way.
Jakob ran 3:28 at 19. Hocker is 20 with a PB of 3:35. Even if you assume he could run 3-4 seconds faster in a time trial, that's a world of difference at that level. Jakob is what top 10 all time? Would a 3:31 even place top 100?

Just love it. And Thursday night, Jakob somewhere between 3.45 and 3.47.

Not necessarily. Doha 2019, winning time 3:29, second and third in 3:31. I don't think anyone closed in under 54 seconds.
Hocker will be in the final, provided he doesn't do something stupid, his kick will get him through the rounds. By now, the rest of the field will know that there is a guy in the race who can close 200m in 25 seconds so I think they'll make it a more honest race. I'm still expecting Cheruiyot to be there which will change the race entirely and crush the sit and kick merchants
Jakob will beat Hocker easily. Hocker is not even in contention to get a medal.
I am counting on Kenya to change their mind and get Tim C on the bus to Japan.
1. Tim
2. Jakob
3. Centro
7. Hocker....Goes home shooshing, since Centro didn't win.
Anass Essayi (aged 17 in 2018) between a Kenyan and an Ethiopian in the 1500m line.
African youth championship.
Good luck for the future and I hope you will that 3:30 for not so long.
You are one of the few favorized in the national level and selected to pursue a track & Field carrer in Mohammed VI Institute of athletics.

If the final at the Olympics is slow (i.e more than 3:35:00 sec.) then the gold medal will go to Hocker (provided that he participates) or to Centrowitz. If the final is run in a typical pace (i.e 3:30:00 - 3:35:00 sec) then it' s anyone' s guess who the winner will be. If the final is fast (i.e. below 3:30:00 sec) then it' s either Cheruiyot (provided that he participates) or Ingebritsen.
Hocker is a great talent but he is not in Jakobs league. You are comparing a guy that has run sure a 3:50 mile to a guy that runs a 3:28 1500m and has probably sub 3:43 mile potential. Jakob is a Gold expectation Hocker is waiting on the finalization of world rankings to see if he slams a Tokyo Ticket. It's not a question as to which one you got it's a question of will Hocker get through to the final. The question for Jakob is Will he win a 1500m 5000m Golden double. I can tell you Jakob is not thinking about or nervous about Hocker. If he lost to Hocker that would be the equivalent of Hocker losing to a semi ranked high school kid.
The last two 3:35 races Hocker ran is equivalent to 3:31 or 3:32 in a time trial/ Diamond league type race. Still puts him 3 or 4 seconds off of Jakob. But I like his chances in championship racing
