Shame on the 70+ million people who support this coup attempt. They should have to re-apply to become US citizens, like the slaver confederate states had to.

I'm just trying to imagine how Mitch feels here.
The Trumpists have ruined his party and taken his job away.
Now he has to watch as kiddo Hawley takes the proven losing lessons of Trumpism and applies them in yet even more damaging ways to Mitch's beloved R party and R senate majority.
After Mitch begged him and the others not to do this.
Mitch could have a stroke here.
If he's vengeful he will think of something to destroy those trumpers chances of ever being re-elected. He's made too much money and has seen a lot. I think if anything he's just tired and happy to punch out anytime. Did you see the smug look on their faces as they objected on AZ thinking they are coming off like heroes? They deserve each other and most of all they deserve to share the same fate as trump.

I think I agree with all of this, at least at the Federal level. Nice summary.
That said: Letitia James (NYS AG), though no spring chicken, is younger than Andrew Cuomo (a little) and Chuck Schumer (several years). Cuomo and Schumer are not going to stay in office forever; and if she has her eye on higher office, going after Trump could make her very well known to NYS voters.
Wouldn't necessarily have to be a jury trial, either. A plea bargain (no jail time, but admission of guilt and fines/restitution) would suit that purpose admirably--and take the Feds off the hook.
One caveat: If Garland really pursues the Hunter "investigation" there might be pressure to show balance and also go after one or more of the Trumps for their crimes. I do expect, however, that Donald Trump will pardon his children and Jared before leaving office.
Donald Trump has split the Republican party. If he is nominated in 2024 I will lose my mind.

As I stated in this thread before, Mitch will retire shortly. Publicly, it will be for "health reasons". Privately, it is because he has no more real power. Hawley and Cruz will lead a hard right faction within the GOP and moderates like Romney, Collins, and Murkowski along with others will form a centrist bloc that will work with centrist Dems to get legislation passed that serves the interests of both parties.
Mitch got his judicial picks but, he is fast becoming obsolete as his party becomes more fractured over the next two years. I know a sitting midwestern GOP House member that personally despises McConnell because he kills the vast majority of bills that come from the House regardless of content. He blames both Trump and McConnell for losing the House in 2018, especially McConnell because his obsession with denying Obama and Pelosi any victories also killed programs that would have helped moderate Republicans retain their seats in red states.

Expect Trump, or Trump Jr, to run in 2024 but not as the Republican party. Trump will create a new party branded as something like MATA, for Make America Trump Again! The result will be a Reagen like 500+ Electoral College vote win for the Democrats because the Republican party and Trump party will split 40-45% of the vote they can get. Republicans will spend more than a decade trying to get rid of the soon to be created Trump party.
Mitch just said, "we can't just declare ourselves the national board of elections on steroids."
That was good

The answer is no. They are from all over the country. They are about 30,000 strong out of 340,000,000 Americas; less than 0.01%.

The investigation that Letitia James is running is a civil matter. If she finds anything, it will result in fines, but jail time is not an issue. Which isn't to say that she won't do everything she can to nail Trump, but whatever she does won't send Trump to jail.
However, Cy Vance, the NY County DA, is conducting a criminal investigation into Trump. That's where Trump's criminal problems potentially will come from. I doubt Vance has any political aspirations beyond where he is now, but representing the fairly liberal NY County, he may feel some pressure to go after Trump as hard as possible. There's also the matter of an investigation into two of Trump's kids that Vance's office did a few years ago; it was reportedly a strong case, but the whole matter was dropped, and subsequently a donation was made by Trump's lawyer to Vance's campaign fund. Although he has denied that anything inappropriate happened, Vance may feel like his reputation has been tarnished and he may push to charge and convict Trump just to prove that he's not in Trump's pocket.
I honestly don't see the Feds going after Trump. But I think Cy Vance will. If it ever gets to the point where Trump goes to trial, it will be an absolute circus.

Mitch did us right. I am surprised. Watched it live and it just ended. He is not for trying to challenge the state certified results and said so very eloquently.
Now Schumer talking.

Trump is leaving behind a giant scapegoating vacuum. The trumpers are going nuts in total agony. In 2020 alone, trump managed to lose 350k americans, the WH, the Senate and destroyed the GOP. Lots of winning!

Both very good speeches.
Real question: Have any of trumps businesses ever succeeded? Did they all default on the loans, steal from the contractors and get looted by trump himself?
What about the business that his spawn have been involved with. I know that Ivanka bankrupted her little clothing failure, but what about the others?
