I get your point but in order to get credit for leading Congress you must tell them what you want out of this. And be clear about it.
He surely isn't doing that.
And if Congress drops the ball on this, he can point at them all he wants but everyone can point right back at him and show that he set the termination in progress.
People blame and credit the president as a default on everything that happens under their term.
DACA failure would be very easy to blame on him since he actually took action to end it.
And what is this "revisit" caveat he wrote?
Will he himself kick the can if nothing happens in 6 months?
In the meantime, there's talk of the boarder will as a bargaining chip.
Republicans may say we'll make DACA law if Dems give votes for a boarder wall.
But Dems have leverage here as DACA is widely popular outside of the Breitbart crowd.
It sure looks like you guys are giving Trump some credit for being able to wheel and deal. How about that? I hope you're right, but Trump is not an ideologue so it isn't clear that he's trying to do the right thing here.
I would accept a permanent amnesty for all the "kids" Obama imported from Central America only AFTER the following:
1. All immigration from terrorist states is stopped completely,
2. All illegal immigration is stopped.
3. The Wall is built.
4. Chain immigration is stopped. The "parents" don't get to automatically come here. They don't like it? We send the "kids" back free of charge.
All this has to happen BEFORE any amnesty occurs, otherwise we get screwed like Reagan did when he signed amnesty in return for border control. The amnesty happened, but control was never enforced. Congress is populated by dishonest lying sacks of Shiite. Never trust them.
If Congress doesn't go for this, then enforce the law and start deporting the "kids" while blaming Congress for the whole mess.
