Timing chips do not get turned on or off or "activated", it's just not how they work. Specifically London uses the IPICO Sports Tag. The Tag's have a unique number which gets registered to your name, all you can do at the expo is make sure it works and that it is registered to your name. The chip never changes, just the computer program that links that unique chip number to your name.

Timing chips do not have batteries, they are passive and do not send out a signal until they go within the magnetic field created by the timing mats. Once they go within the magnetic field then it will send out a signal with its own unique number. That number gets picked up and is linked to you via the software program being used for timing.

So - if Dave had a chip it would alreadly have been linked to his name when it was given to him (within the software program). Anytime he passed a mat ithe chip would have given out the number and that would have linked it to him in the program. He clearly only passed over one mat.

Well, that means that Dave was a Very Naughty Boy, then...but we knew that, anyway :)

I think what happens is you go with you race packet and they pick one of the 100s of chips they have and they scan your number and then scan the chip, thus linking the 2. Pretty sure your race packet doesn't have a chip. If this is the case then he had to get it activated / linked.

I like the 409-312 theory and with £5k riding on it it makes sense that he tried to be smart about it, though why not just start with everyone else and do the same thing? It takes a good 30+ minutes for everyone to cross the start line and some of the more extreme fancy dress costumes start at the back. Looking at the results of who came in last they only have an approx 30 min delay in crossing the start, can't find much after that.

I think a good starting point would be to get in touch with Tom Bedford who is deep inside VMLM so might be able to get some answers as to this bs result and the story behind it and hopefully add a bit of pressure to get him dropped off the list forever. He may also know re the timing mats turning off at the start. His email shouldn't be too hard to find, either a London marathon one or the Richmond Running festival since he organises that.

poor Dave, so ill-prepared back then at last year's London. In the video with Neil he is showing him his Lejog route planner and you can see he has marked off suitable places where the van can stop off along the route. Presumable where he could get out, have a few pics taken and then jump back in. Such a shame all that preparation was to no avail.

How awesome would it be if they had security camera footage from the Start line around 11:00-11:15 AM. I'd bet dollars to donuts you'd see a tall lanky individual lurking about the Start line and strolling across it at almost precisely 11:07.

I wonder whether he will look as fresh at 23 miles this year at London as he did after running 140 odd miles from Norwich to London.

Agree, except there is one factual error. It says results show him crossing the timing mats at the Start and Finish. That's not correct, his chip did not register at the Start, unless he crossed the Start line exactly when the gun went off, which is extremely unlikely. As explained a couple pages back, his Start time shows as the gun time (10:00:02) because his chip did not register at the Start line.

I really think security camera footage of the Start line at around 11:07 AM (3 hours 12 minutes before he crossed the Finish line) would very likely be the smoking gun of his cheating in that race.

There's a good chance that sometime between 11:00-11:15 you'd see him hanging around the Start line with his bib covered up.

Dave needs a sub-3:30 to get the 5,000 Pounds in donation MONEY at London 2016!

Dave also does the Marathon-Cheater-Liar-Fraud at the London Marathon 2016 to practice for his 2017 LEJOG ULTRA-RUN-Cheater-Liar-Fraud.

Dave thinks that he has done a FAKE 3:12 2016 London Marathon Cheater-Liar-Fraud…but finds out that he has only done a FAKE 4:19 2016 London Marathon Cheater-Liar-Fraud…so then Dave contacts the London Marathon Officials…and DOES MORE 2016 LONDON MARATHON CHEATER-LIAR-FRAUD!!!...

I don't think it's wise for everyone to take it for granted that Dave Reading was previously known as Shingler. Nobody has provided conclusive proof of this, it's just speculation.

Yes, it would seem that the continuous pounding that non-runners go on about affects not the joints of ultra-runners but their brain cells. The less charitable view I got from reading their group on the subject of Rob Young was that they gave the impression that getting caught is the chief crime, not the dishonesty.
