Anyone ever had a "Sports Hernia" aka: "Sportsman's hernia", "Gilmore's groin", or &quot

I actually had mine diagnosed back in January through a good ultrasound. I found an ultrasound doctor who was very skilled at this type of injury and they diagnosed it almost on the spot. Had the surgery last month and am almost back to running.

I've been diagnosed with Athletic Pubalgia -previously diagnosed with an inguinal hernia not found in laparoscopy - and I am trying physical therapy/ultrasound therapy. There seems to be improvement, but wondering if I will plateau as I did with rest only. I will let you know how it goes.

Anyone have any suggestions on how to kill the pain from AP/SH? I'm getting a bi-lateral SH repaired end of month and a 1/2 a$$ed inguinal repair redone at the same time. It's only three weeks away, but I haven't slept in days due to the discomfort and intermitent pain.

rem - seriously, if everything else has failed, try Klonopin. Check a few pages back on this thread. It has worked wonders for me. I rarely use it now (only after significant activity), but during the acute phase of this injury, it totally eliminated the pain. Nothing else did.

thats interesting because i had prostatitis before my ap and i took cipro which is another antibiotic that is also known to hurt your tendons, and surprisingly i got my ap about 4 months later (not sure at all if they are related though)

I am about 7-8 months out of AP surgery with Meyers and it went successfully, but it has been a slow recovery. I can finally run on the track a half mile successfully (not because of pain but because of out of shape). Well i was running on the track and felt a pop on the other side of my abdomen opposite the surgery side and immediately had to shut it down. I has been hurting ever since(not bad pain, just a achy pinching feeling around the inguinal canal. I was wondering, HAS ANYONE HAD TO HAVE SURGERY ON THE OTHER SIDE OF THE ABDOMEN AFTER THE FIRST SURGERY? I have compensation pain sometimes, but this feels different. I guess I am going to have to give Marcia a call at the office. Any thoughts would be great?

I play competitive football and had gilmores groin op (left) six weeks ago after over training last year. Initially, I had slight pain in both groins. I continued to play until my performance was severely affected-loss of power, twisting and turning, kicking etc. The pain I felt at the time was in the left groin only. After consulting a number of physios and sports doctors I was referred to a sports surgeon specialised in sports hernia. After consultation it was decided that surgery was neccessary. I played a number of games up until the surgery. Surgery-mesh etc. I followed my rehab program and have returned playing. Core power has returned and dont have any pain kicking or turning. Unfortunately I am experiencing some pain in my RIGHT groin. It doesnt seem to be as advanced.

Q. Is it common to have gilmores groin on both sides?

Q. What can I do to prevent gilmores groin if the pain I am feeling is infact AP?

Light stretching at least three times a day works best for me. Making sure all of your other muscles are stretched I think prevents less stress on you adductors etc. and limits pain in the groin. I also go to therapy three days a week and do a wide range or exercise ending each session with ultrasound therapy. I cannot run yet, but I do not have any pain walking anymore. Since I'm currently not able to run or play soccer, I am not using any ice at this time unless I feel like I've tweaked something; heating pads and hot baths seems to keep it loose. I'm still not sure I can knock this without surgery, but I'm going to try.

Destiny- the only imaging that can detect a SH is an ultrasound... but it only works if the tech gets you to bear down when they are doing it (so you can see the tear open. I had every type of imaging you can imagine before going to germany and nothing was found until the 3rd ultrasound (1st in germany) when i flexed

It is common-Most of the treatment outcome studies for SH report that a significant percentage of patients present with bilateral pathology. Generally, one side is worse than the other. SH most likely originates from some type of muscle imbalance in the pelvis (e.g. adductors, abdominus, etc) leading to tearing or weakening. Therefore it seems very likely for bilateral problems to occur.

I had bilateral SH laparoscopic/mesh repair 3.5 weeks ago. I presented with severe left groin pain and periodic, dull pain in on the right. Operative findings were consistent in that I had substantial transversalis fascia tearing on the left side and only a small amount of tearing on the right. Any advice on recovery time, etc? I'm still feeling pain upon standing or walking for long periods of time (>30 minutes).

Anyone out there have successful laparoscopic/mesh repair done and would like to share their recovery experience?

My worst fears may have become reality. Yesterday when I was finishing an hour run I had some dull pain in my groin area. I thought nothing of it because it wasnt anything too bad, and it didnt hurt after the run or up until my run today. I ran 6 minutes today and turned around to check Dr. letsrun. Of course I find this thread and what seems to be a horrible injury.

right now the pain is located where the adductor attaches to the groin/hip. I can walk fine; the muscle isnt tender and only running seems to aggravate it. This just happened a day ago and I hope that by catching it early I can avoid what some of you have had to go through.

Is there hope that this is just a mild strain and will blow over in a couple days or a week? Im still young, only 20, so hopefully that will help with the healing time…

probably just strained your groin - this injury usually happens to runners over time - muscle imbalances pulling until shit starts to tear etc. Soccer, hockey players, and the like often get sudden tears from twisting motion while kicking, skating etc. Hope you don't have this scurge - it really sucks.

I've read this whole thread and it was one of the most depressing things I've ever read when I had this injury. However, there are so many people THAT DON'T KNOW HOW TO TAKE TIME OFF AND REHAB CORRECTLY FROM A RUNNING INJURY.

Rest = inflammation goes away

Rehab = alter biomechanics so inflammation doesn't return

This means stretching, strengthening, and formwork

I have overcome this injury without surgery and anyone else can if they catch it early enough. Don't keep running with it intil something tears. Get the problem figured out immediately, don't just run through the pain or you'll tear your abs/groin apart.

I'm glad to hear this because I haven't read any comments from anyone who has overcome this without surgery. I have been going to PT and undergoing ultrasound therapy. I'm not sure if I can beat this or not, but I'm glad someone had some success.

I've been going to therapy for about three weeks now and I have seen some improvement. No pain in daily activities anymore, but still can't run yet... just stationary bike for now. Wish me luck!!

After searching for more info, my symptoms seem to be pointing towards Osteitis Pubis. Anyone have/had this? Things were going so well and now this happens...

Could someone who has had AP surgery through Dr. Meyers, bilateral, and paid 100% out of pocket please tell me what the toal cost was --> hospital + cost of surgery?

I had surgery Monday after thanksgiving it cost 12,700, everything including all the bills, but I paid zero. I'm running 100 miles this week. I aw Dr. Catty in wisconsin. Yes I'm happy.

i had gilmores groin surgery in ireland in january of this year.im in the us on scholarship and redshirting my freshman year. there is still swelling beneat the scar but i have to say i have no groin pain. the only thing i have is when i squeeze my knees together hrd my left and right groin pop- tight hip flexors maybe??

my surgery was jan11th and i was back running for about 50mins but 4weeks ago i got hurt again,

i had knee arthroscopy last fri were they repaired a torn medial meniscus and repaired a medial meniscus defect and also thinned out my thickened plica.

im getting off my crutches tomorrow after having the surgery in nj and i ve started range of motion rehab already so hopefully this clears up and i can get ready for the fall.
