NYU needs a stronger 5th to compete with Cortland and Geneseo.
Reasonable point. OTOH the Violets' 2-6 spread (accepting Maher as an outlier) on Saturday was just over 30 seconds, which isn't that bad. (Particularly on a slow course where only 20% of the field--four top-25 teams, remember--was under 27 minutes.) Actually, if Maher had been DQed then NYU's 2-6 would still have won the meet, and we'd be talking about their tight 1-5 spread!
Geneseo and Cortland will have the top two seeds going into Regionals, and I think they should, based on the totality of their season-to-date. But I kind of suspect that NYU can "compete" with them right now.
...Though you have to wonder whether McDonough will train them through Regionals a little bit, given that the AR's top three teams seem to have opened a gap on the next squads?
