In other news, the US fight against the virus may have turned a corner finally...the 7 day averages of both new cases and deaths are the lowest since the first week of December and heading down sharply.
Could be a Xmas mirage though, of less testing and clerking... we'll see if Xmas travel cause an uptick in cases.
With the holiday season I think it's just a pullback from the massive spike. It's just really nothing short of a total governance and collective moral failure that all these people are losing their lives earlier right before vaccines are widely available. I'm not surprised to see CA and NY (from the first wave) on the charts, but look at IL... TX and FL sadly are not the least bit surprising. But hey, faith over fear and err on the side of freedumb right?
At the beginning of this thread/presidency I was sure the Republican Party was going to throw Trump out.
He was embarrassing, unethical and bad for branding.
It was the Republicans who had Mueller investigate him.
Sessions recused himself and Rosenstein was in charge of how that proceeded.
Flynn was immediately charged and cooperated.
Manafort went down. Cohen went down.
Money laundering and campaign finance issues were apparent.
Paul Ryan was the Republican Speaker of the House. He did not endorse Trump and had announced he would retire in two years at the end of his term.
It was perfectly set up for a Republican lead impeachment.
But a Trump wing of the Republican Party emerged and that changed everything.
It was about extremism now.
They traded moderate voters for emotional voters who normally didn’t vote.
Americans became more divided than ever.
Lies and misinformation was the way.
Now Trump has been voted out but he has left a stain on the Republican Party that will be quite hard to remove.

"Heading down sharply" is probably an artifact of the holiday slowdown in testing and processing death reports. On the other hand, new cases have been pretty flat for the last two weeks so there's reason to be hopeful that the upward trend is done and we may be heading down, if not sharply, in the near future.

We are at the peak right now and will be heading down in the near future. We have likely seen the worst of COVID 19.
The (bigger) problem scenario would be if a new strain with a higher transmission rate takes over more quickly than we can get folks vaccinated, (e.g., what is being reported in the UK),
As the curtain falls on the Trump era, here's a retrospective of some of the most absurd and head-scratching moments given to us by the Orange Man. Not necessarily the most important or most impactful moments, but moments that in many respects will epitomize the utter stupidity and dishonesty of his Presidency.
Enjoy these bizarre Trump memories, ranging from his claim that you need photo ID to buy groceries, to his accusation that Obama committed the crime of "Obamagate", to his praise of George Washington's Continental Army for taking over the airports.

The direction of the party became clear to me when Romney was trying to lobby his colleagues and no broad motivation was materializing, not even from the big donors. At the time I believe they saw a choice between taking a huge short-mid term political loss by opposing the will of the base, or simply playing along and squeezing out what they wanted with trump as cover. Boy did the latter pay off well for them. It was 4 years of riding roughshod, open criming and wealth accumulation at the expense of the country. What surprised me was that they still haven't thrown him under the bus despite his loss and I believe that's due to their surprise outperformance in the Senate and House races. I think if anything, some Rs have become real believers of trumpism now.
How they respond over the next few months may cost them down the road or will continue to pay off. It all depends on how legally exposed trump is, whether he can continue to play the role of useful idiot, and if they can find a viable replacement. Rest assured they won't be able to simply shake trump off and keep in mind that all but a few Rs continue to be extremely loyal to trump. There should be no doubt that speaking badly or even not revering trump leading into 2022 may cost them a potential House majority and certainly they would lose Senate seats.
The problem the GOP has now is that they need to publicly remain loyal to trump but they can no longer protect him.
Interesting
So, within about 5 minutes of my previous post both my accounts (R and Dr. R) got banned and the post has been deleted. Now that's sort of odd because this thread is supposedly unmoderated and posts are red flagged only via the report function. So, what was so controversial?
The post in question highlighted the fact that a certain anti-social well known troll living in Seattle used to post as DFF. This was already pretty well known and no one really cares about that kid anyways. The real "unforgivable" act was probably when I correctly pointed out the rather embarrassing and frightening social media presence of a certain former US @(steeple)%-$(chaser)# (we'll call this person Individual 2).
Since the post was so quickly removed, I have some theories.
1) Someone reported me - this is possible but I've said way worse and almost all of LRC is in unison with what I posted.
2) a)There is a mod actively trolling this sub. The idea that Sally Vix is rojo has been floated before but honestly rojo is way to stupid to be able to keep it going for that long, but rojo has been caught multiple times trolling the boards before.
b) DG is, and has always been, Individual 2. I believe this could easily be the case. The writing style is not too far off and they share many of the same beliefs, but it's not quite airtight. DG was apparently an avid course steel-tape measuring guru in Indiana. Could be a cover by Individual 2 though.
3) They're using entry level Python kiddie-scripts that throw alerts to a mod-mail on keywords. This could also be the case (hence the symbols above).
What's interesting is that this is the first time I've been banned by username. I've been hit with probably 50 IP bans before and those never bother me because I use ProtonVPN (highly recommended btw because you definitely DO NOT want the brojos holding your data. And Ive basically got 1000s of IPs at my disposal so keep em coming >:) ).
But yeah, a username ban because I disgraced the almighty name of Individual 2? It used be that you had to mention the time he openly admitted to doping for such a punishment.

Agreed on DG = Individual 2. I pointed this out multiple times years ago and promptly had my posts deleted and "suffered" temporary bans.

I was IP banned by the s t * * ple boy for not agreeing to tell runners that it was not acceptable to call the things jumped over hurdles. Runners can call them what they like. That led to an IP ban.
I have been using the same VPN Rac*tt has been using. Besides having thousands of obfuscated IPs they also change who they a renting IP blocks from. So that offers a higher level of protection when you are banned for political or personal reasons than just being a moron like Sally, of gross and drunk like DFF (jamin) from the first pages of this thread. Sally got an IP ban, but jamin is protected (mods worry he will off himself if banned from LRC).
A primary advantage to having a VPN is the ability to watch races free in other countries, but pay-for in the U.S.

Bull$hit. You know it, everyone else knows it. You voted to stick it to people, no matter what you say now.
If you really cared about qualifications, one need only look at the Bush vs. Gore election to see what the consequences of electing unqualified idiots are. There was basically zero chance we'd go to war in Iraq, for example, under a Gore presidency. Thousands of Americans were killed, tens of thousands more maimed, hundreds of thousands to perhaps a million Iraqis killed, dead, displaced. Because people thought Gore was boring or they wanted to stick it to the Democrats, or they hated Gore's global warming work.
When Trump fails miserably at something -- and goo people -- Americans -- die, it's on you, pal. He's not qualified and he never will be. And he doesn't even seem to care.
Wrong, "W" was total "greatness." He destroyed a murderous dictator responsible for the murder of millions.
Don't fck with America. We will kill you.
Thank you DUBS you are GREATNESS🤘
Your brother JEB is a pu$$y though.
I haven't been on this thread that long, but is this the "DFF" you're talking about?
Funny how the nutjobs loved GWB and thought the war in Iraq was great, right up until Trump said the opposite.

One of the rare DFF posts that didn't have 6 dozen emojis in it

Hmmmmm. Another poster on this thread known for trolling Trumpers on other sites uses a lot of emojis too. Did you guys just uncover his LRC troll alter-ego? ?Wouldn't be surprised if Sally, Trollminator, and DFF were all the same person.
So, in another thread, Racket (or whatever handle he's using these days) said I got "run out" of this thread (which is BS of course), so in honor of him, I thought I'd jump in and say howdy.
Also...
Trumpers are only one of two things:
1) JUST stupid.
2) Racist.
There are no other options.
So, why have I not posted much since the election?:
1) Biden won as I said he would. There's not much to talk about further for now.
2) Rigged has gone completely off the deep end, and I don't need to see someone that far into delusion.
If I don't post until next year, have a Happy New Year!

So the consensus is that vote countring did not stop, even though it did, and if it did, then so what? It doesn't mean anything.
Is that where you're all at?
BTW, just the video evidence of all the Republicans being sent home and then seeing the hidden cases of ballots being pulled out from under a table and being stuffed into the counting machines is way more evidence than anyone had for the Russian collusion hoax. Way more. WAY more. WAAAAAAAAAAAY more!
Remember, we had a 3+ year investigation into Russian collusion. There has been no high level investigation into all the evidence of election fraud. No Special Counsel has been named. No one has been dragged out of their home at 5 am with CNN cameras present. No breathless coverage of how all this means our elections have been compromised and that many are certainly going to jail.
This deserves at least a 3 year investigation with the most hard core Republican lawyers running free with unlimited funds and access. Why aren't we getting that?
You aren't getting that because no one has come up with evidence that a competent, ethical attorney, even a competent, ethical attorney who badly wants Trump as President, believes is credible enough to present to a court. The internet is filled with various accusations, Rudy tosses wile theories around, but when Trump's lawyers are invited by the courts to show their case, they back off all those theories -- even when appearing before a judge appointed by Trump.
Most people claiming that there is evidence really have little or no idea of what constitutes sufficient evidence.
And quite frankly, Rudy, Powell, Wood and Ellis have unwittingly become an anchor around Trump's efforts. Ultimately, that is irrelevant because there no real evidence of widespread fraud has emerged.
I was just about to check out of this insane asylum until I read your post. Do you want to have a reasonable discussion about election integrity? Does anyone here want to? It's serious stuff. It matters.
If not, then I'm not going to be part of this juvenile lunacy.
