Wealth might be concentrating, but that doesn't mean red counties are poor. It's the old question...if all quintiles are getting richer, how worried should be we about inequality? Can we still say that lower quintiles are losing ground?
Except Republican districts are losing ground.
https://www.brookings.edu/blog/the-avenue/2019/09/10/america-has-two-economies-and-theyre-diverging-fast/The causes and effects of this are highly non-trivial, which is what you'd expect from something as complex as the American socioeconomic ecosystem. Things like this don't really boil down into one particular smoking gun.
Although I've got it on the highest amateur authority that's as simple as people being racist or stupid, so there's that too if you prefer!
do you really think Trumpism is a result of people becoming poor/losing ground economically? Because I see economics as pretty far down the list. Resentment of elites seems to me #s 1-5 or thereabouts.
All trumpers talk about is how much they hate big city democrats who have different values than they do. They hardly ever say anything about economics.
Except for coal miners or that kind of politicized industry. Economics is higher for them.
