The other thing is that no charges have been filed against Hunter and certainly no convictions. What if an announcement of an investigation had tipped the election to Trump, but the investigation never resulted in an indictment?

Campaigning for Trump is attacking his opponent, but if had compently handled the pandemic and his presidency in general, he would have easily been reelected.

And for some perspective on Trump's relationship with the NY County DA's office, the DA (Cy Vance) who is now investigating Trump had been investigating two of Trump's kids for fraud in connection with the sale of condos at a Trump property. It seemed like a strong case. Trump's lawyer donated a lot of money to Vance's campaign. The money was returned by Vance, Trump's lawyer then met with Vance and convinced him to drop the case against Ivanka and Don Jr. Subsequently, Trump's lawyer donated a lot more money to Vance.

always a bracing reminder that democracy is not a natural state that people choose...it has to be taught and learned.

I fear we've done a poor job teaching democracy. And I don't know how that will reverse. No prominent Rs want to stand up and preach the gospel of democracy. They are too scared of their primary voters. Imagine that. You have a once-in-a-century opportunity to serve the nation and be remembered forever in history books. And instead you go the wrong way, out of fear of being primaried.

It's so hard for me to imagine that kind of behavior.
