I admire Rigged's persistence, although I marvel at his unbelievable ability to ignore actual facts while thinking the opinions of those on twitter is evidence that support his arguments.

This lawsuit is a political stunt to save face. Has zero merit and it will likely be unanimously rejected by the supreme court. Everything that is being argued in the suit has been dismissed in every lower level court in every state that is being questioned. Zero evidence. Ton's of hearsay. No merrit.

Amazing to me the power the republican party has given to Trump, Trumpers and those functioning on the far right (that number is growing btw). So it's rich when republicans repeat the "radical liberal left" label as their main talking point when damn near the entire party has firmly taken a knee and bowed to those who are on the "radical-conservative right."

There are so many dopes in this country. I really hope things "normalize" when Trump is officially sent packing. But, I'm not optimistic.

You mean typically they claim they want less government and more restraint? Constitutional rights? Freedoms? blah blah blah. Only when it applies to what they want I guess.

I'm waiting for Pennsylvania's countersuit against Texas, claiming that Texas' policy of one drop box per county illegally and unconstitutionally suppressed the vote and that, therefore, Texas' election results should be de-certified and the Texas EC votes awarded to Biden.

To think tens of millions share Biff's beliefs and sentiment. Judges try hard to give the appearance of impartiality, but I really wish they were more outspoken about what trump has been trying to do. His suits have had nothing to do with actually trying to fight irregularities or highlight concerns. His lawyers even go in and say they are not claiming there has been any fraud. They have been using the judicial system to keep up the public circus act and pretend the deep state is blocking their fight.

Changing presidents won't make 74m people stop being dopes. The question is will these dopes continue to display their stupidity and anger openly or will they go back to hiding it. After the 8-year run of vitriol the GOP and the base displayed under Obama, I have no doubt the GOP will continue gas lighting the heck out of the base with the Biden/Harris duo. If trump announces he's running in 2024, we will see the same banners, hats and rallies all over until then. He won't have the same mic of course, but we won't stop hearing about him until he's destroyed financially or thrown in jail.

Republicans are not and never will be against judicial activism. It's a lie we have been told.

I'll give you another example of the lies.

Some people say Republicans favor free markets. But just look at recent proposed legislation in Ohio. It puts a moratorium on wind and solar projects while its sponsors also voted for subsidies to the coal industry. Did those anti-free-market Democrats propose this? Of course not. That was Republicans.

Maybe there was a time when some Republicans like William F. Buckley stood on principle. Maybe there are a rare few today like Mitt Romney who stand on principle.

But as a whole, Republicans are soulless creatures who are only interested in money and power.

A loaded and over-cited quote basically advocating for a technocracy. You could pull apart the implications of this into multiple novels really.

For some reason people seem to think that a Bachelor's degree alleviates all ignorance of an individual. I assure you - it does not.

Perceptive post. I want to be optimistic about our future but I am not as sanguine as other posters. I know movements have a way of ebbing and flowing in countries and maybe much of what we are seeing will diminish once Trump leaves. Certainly he was a focal point and once out of office his power to influence will be diminished. But I have major concerns.

I believe there is a phenomena that has spread throughout our country, denialism. It is the denial of facts and reality and a subsequent willingness to believe unsubstantiated facts and conspiracy theories. It is reflected in huge numbers of people believing medical leaders and the media for some reason want to deceive people about the existence of the pandemic. The deniers believe, despite all evidence to the contrary, that there is no pandemic of significance.

The deniers believe that Trump won the election and that the election was stolen from Trump. Despite the number of lawsuits shot down by the courts, despite the number of recounts indicating a Biden win, huge numbers of people still believe the election was stolen from Trump.

There are a huge number of reality deniers, who distrust media, medical authorities, scientists, higher education but quickly accept unsubstantiated theories and facts. This population makes our country vulnerable to characters like Trump who know how to manipulate and motivate the deniers.

There are many social psychological reasons why this group of reality deniers has expanded. Many of these factors will exist even after Trump. Tribalism, internet, social media, foreign intervention, and anxiety of status to name of few.

The election of Biden who ran on a platform of unity and decency is a very good sign. Maybe the pendulum is ready to swing back in the other direction. We shall see what kind of country we will become.

I think you expect too much of this nation.

For 300 years Europe has correctly considered a mishmash of redneck, enlightenment, children, saints.

The nation has always been poorly educated, stupid, rash, cruel... yet brilliant and idealistic all at the same time.

Trump has brought the 1/3 of the population that is yahoo to the forefront. They've always been here, for 300 years. Just now they were given the white house and a charismatic leader.

Now the enlightenment takes over again, and things calm down.

*unless Trump decides to carry on with his sedition from out of office, and the R party hands him the keys to the party. Then we're in big trouble.

The vast majority of judges take their jobs seriously, and they aren't going to go along with these frivolous lawsuits. So, not brilliant at all...just actually people with integrity. MOST people are NOT like Donald Trump.

The sh**** part, of course, is that roughly one-half of this country SUPPORTS Donald Trump. That's all that bad leaders need. Moreover, CLEARLY, lots of elected Trumpster officials don't take their jobs nearly as seriously as these judges. A country needs more than that.

No, I am not. The divisions will be there for a long time yet, but the passion for the Trumpers to get back in and vote again is gone. Unfortunately, I think that you're being way too optimistic. I hope I'm wrong. None of his successors need be "as good" as him at being bad for it to be a pretty grim forecast. How many inspired, enabled, and ambitious Trumpster DeSantis/Cruz/Graham/etc/etc types does one need to make any given locality, state, or federal government notably worse? Again, hope I'm wrong, but if Trump and the Republicans and their supporters have normalized dishonesty, shamelessness, and utter lack of principle as much as it seems, one doesn't necessarily need Trump-level Trumps to make for a very bad local and national landscape.

the fact that the US is arguably a continental empire (rather than a country) is a frequent burr under our saddle. Or bicycle seat. Always has been.

Finding the right balance between federal uniformity and state semi-autonomy is hard and always under rethink.

The problem of course is race..so many states use their semi-autonomy to discriminate by race, that the feds have to jump in.

If the whites would just behave better things would go more smoothly, that's for sure.

But as is often true in US history, we do need a rethink on finding the line between federal authority and states' rights.
