I was thinking about this the other day. I’ve come to the conclusion that the Battersea Park Dumb clubbers like running for different reasons than we traditional hobby joggers.
For them, it’s all about the “vibes” and meeting up for a perfect session, taking selfies, wearing the perfect outfit, going one more, then enjoying a pastry and matcha from an overpriced bakery to live their “best life”. It’s almost like they are scared to embrace the solitary joy of running; Mary Mc recently said she’s never done a long run on her own. It's triggering because the whole thing is performative and has a "we are reclaiming running and making it cool" feel.
I think they need to reclaim hobby jogging in this way, as running around a park in London is inherently dull. None the less, they are annoying; however, there is worse, probably way more fun though, things they could be doing at their age!
I cannot believe someone running “20 years” (as they liked to repeat over and over when people criticised her stupid overtraining) has never done a long run alone. That is insane.
I would also like to do all my long runs with friends and 2 hour bakery stops, but it turns out most of us have those pesky responsibilities. Call me a jealous hater or whatever, but it's a bit tiresome watching influencers prance around pretending like they invented a social jog and a coffee as if nobody else ever thought of that before.
Very odd to stoop this low! Also, while Fenton is not traditionally a high flyer, he's not Beloved Sports Direct and he's the best looking person in there.
I assume most people on here are floating around middle age and above; very odd to look at people through the school boy lens of looks and leagues!

I’m tired of the constant claims that Goddard is behind OMTIU. It’s baseless and defamatory.
Anyone who reads that account can see it shows a far stronger command of spelling and sentence structure than Goddard is capable of.
Funny you say this because he actually spelt his own name incorrectly on UKCH when filing for his run club business, an earlier comment about Bournemouth uni falls to mind...

What's there still to investigate? Omtiu sitting there with a magnifying glass looking at a GPS track that goes through buildings working out whether Ben Parker is capable of running through someone's front room, or whether 51*0.49 does in fact equal 26.2 miles.
Every other case they just say gps/strava time is not valid, even to that person the other day making a joke out of taking Strava vs chip. Then suddenly there's this months long deep dive funded by patreon to work out if that is indeed true for Ben Parker's inflated marathon claim, if you want to add the nuance of COVID say that it's at least being disengenuous to claim it as a marathon pb without an asterisk of it being unofficial but that's v generous imo

I can't believe people actually gave importance to that dumbaxx page, all should report it and get it shut down so he can stop profiting from it

“OK Boomer” post trigger warning.
The oddest thing about the current running boom and influencers is the behaviour it’s bred in hobby joggers. I’ve been running in Battersea Park for 25+ years and it’s only recently become unbearable; you used to get a January influx, but come the first rainy week in February they’d all be gone.
Now it’s chock full of groups that literally all look the same: Lads in white adidas shoes, white crew socks, black half tights, oversized black shirt, chain (worn outside shirt), 90s boy band haircut. And what on earth are these female tights with the bum / thong outlines?! Everyone seems to be filming themselves, performing the role of self in public, for god knows what audience. The egotism of it all is very odd.
Arguably the most egregious (and bizarre) are the people cosplaying as influencers and/or pros. I wasn’t able to avoid weekend rush hour recently and saw a, clearly newer to running, chap running at max. 4:30/k pace who had a bike pacer providing bottle service - and the bike was dinging people to get out of the way. What on earth?!
As you say, they could all be doing far worse things with their time so it’s worth keeping the bigger picture in mind. And if pretending you’re a pro runner or wearing a £150 running t-shirt is what it takes to get excited to run, then fair enough. It’s not that it bothers me per se, I actually find the whole thing profoundly strange and quite amusing.
I don’t really know any of the characters mentioned in this thread recently but pop in to the chat here every couple weeks when life allows for 10 minutes of mild entertainment. It’s complete brain rot, but the trolls are (mostly) very funny. You’ve given a middle aged man lots of laughs.

My favorite new development is all the shoetubers now convincing people to buy $220 Chinese running shoes. Now all of a sudden I see tons of posts of runners trying to pawn off their Temu shoes that no one has ever heard of.
I think some of these people think there is some magic shoe out there that will take 30 minutes off their marathon time or something with they way they constantly buy this stuff.
Read that Marius Bakken said that if you're constantly have low HR on runs, both easy runs and harder sessions, then it could be a sign that you've run yourself into the ground.
Floberg's analysis would be "we fit".

Hard to argue the gps trace is anything but clear cut. Falling back on the it's listed on the virtual London results is bogus too. I remember the first year I did London post COVID being beaten by a v60 in the 'virtual' race running 5 minutes faster than the v60 world record. The man is still in the results, and has not subsequently taken his talents to a legitimate course as far I can find. A virtual London result isn't worth the pixels it takes up, and if the Omtiu accepts a virtual time as a pb then what's the point in this whole charade? Like that's what they're trying to fight against, unless it's this very specific situation.

Yes and also, the virtual London results aren't valid for anything, including their own event. They are pretty clear about that themselves.
Cannot believe they are pulling this 'investigations ongoing' nonsense when they were happy to slam that poor girl who literally SAID in her post what her actual chip time was and made a joke about taking the strava one. Pathetic.

Patreon's interesting innit.
Just had a look and Phily Bowden apparently has 193 paid subscribers. Based on her member levels, she's making somewhere between £11.5k - £23k per annum in Patreon alone. Fair play.
Even Fenton, with his pultry 32 paid subscribers, could be earning up to £3k p.a.

I've seen some pretty cool stuff on patreon by artists and musicians and the like, but i struggle to imagine what running youtubers are offering that isn't done better at your average rec running group at a significantly lower price point. Wtf are they sellling in there, national secrets? Surely it can't be feet pics.

Partially agree on this. Relatively low HR (for given effort) might mean your fitness is improving, but can also be a flag for fatigue.
For me the way to tell the difference is if you do a hard race effort, if you can't get HR up to where you think it should be in those conditions then you're more likely cooked than in good shape.

Yeah, I’d agree with that. It wouldn’t say Bakken’s claim is 100% correct for everyone.
Although in Floberg’s case, since he’s had difficulties getting his HR up even on like half marathon or 5K PB’s, it could be that his maximum heart rate isn’t as high as he thinks, he’s overtrained, a combination of the both or that he’s just fit.
