Question for people on this thread: What would you recommend for a lifelong Republican who is a big fan of Romney/Kasich types, voted Independent in 2016 and for Biden in 2020 (first time ever voting for a Democrat), and is appalled at what Trump and the Republican party has become, especially post-election? One side of me wants to immediately unregister as a Republican and become Independent, as a very insignificant middle finger to what the Republican party has become, but the other side of me wants to remain a registered Republican so that I can at least continue to have a vote in who they nominate going forward (my state has a closed primary).
I'm also increasingly embarrassed to be getting Republican party crap in the mail, which is another motivation to unregister, though they'll probably still mail me stuff anyway.
As a proud and liberal Democrat, I'd like you to vote Democrat for every office.
But I think what the country needs is more sensible Republicans.
Creating a third party won't work because you will never have enough power to influence anything. That's why the Tea Party people ran as Republicans - easier to influence a party than to start a new party.
Keep your Republican registration. Vote for sensible Republicans in the primaries. This all started when Trump won the Republican primary with zero political experience.
Kasich endorsed Biden but he is still a Republican.
Romney voted to convict Trump but he is still a Republican.
For social media and a thread like this - speak up!
This thread has basically devolved into only anti-Trump Democrats (like me) and Republican Trump sycophants.
We don't see consistent posts from Republicans who are ashamed of Trump like those who made the Lincoln Project.
The view of America is that all Republicans love Trump. He did get an amazing amount of votes for such an awful person.
I would like to see a lot of Republicans speak out against Trump. Maybe after Jan 20 they will.
Like how in the Wizard of OZ all of the followers of the Wicked Witch were happy she was finally dead and only served her in fear.
Oh, and speak up to remove Mitch McConnel from power. He will not vote for legislation to help Americans if it is viewed as a win for Democrats. He is totally unAmerican.
