I'm thinking trump is really isolated right now. He must have his two dumb sons, Jared, and Ivanka whispering in his ears all day, showering him with false praise and recommending actions that will benefit them financially or politically but that will continue to bury him. The only thing anyone around him, including Melanie, are thinking is how to escape the crumbling mansion with as much gold as possible. It's obvious Barr and Pompeo have plans and won't be helping him at their own risk anymore. The only thing left to do is to 1) openly sabotage the GOP as revenge for not helping him or to try to protect himself somehow, and/or 2) announce he will run in 2024 as a Republican or start a new party. I bet the old GOP guard is absolutely terrified of him announcing he will run. It will put them in the worst position.
agreed, but I'd add
Trump's #1 goal is always to make more money, so that's his highest priority.
Trump is fleecing the m/gas day and night, and that has to continue for the long run no matter what happens in elections.
And really, the old guard GOP is almost irrelevant...they've been pushed out by the trumpists. Just saying you were connected to the Bushes is an insult now among the m/ga set. The R party is m/ga owned and operated.
An exception might be those intriguing R senators Collins Murkowski Sasse Romney. If they choose to vote with the Dems once in a while they would be able to conquer a lot of Trumpist territory. And lead Mitch around by the nose.
Agreed re the money. He's raised 170m but that won't be enough to prevent or cushion the avalanche of legal and financial issues coming him way. Isn't political protection perhaps worth more than some $ or is he just not smart enough to see what's coming?
The thing with the old guard is that if there is a more open and official divorce from trumpism it's enough disenfranchised voters to destroy the GOP's (whatever it's made up of) chances of staying in power
