Eli Fitchen Young really gave it all he had leading at CCS Finals and yet still only managed an 8:57. So far his 8:56 and 8:57's this year are from 3200m's where he lead. I think that if Eli decides to let other runners lead he will run faster times. Except for states'24, his best distance races have been where he didn't lead and either worked with someone or off someone (states'23, NXN'24). In fact, deciding to lead at NXN'24 might have been the fatal mistake that lead to his bad race then.
Noonan's 4:03 last week with his dismantling of the 3200 field at Masters this week in what looked like pretty crappy conditions tells me he's coming back into form. Should be a good race between him and Pretre at state, will be very interesting to see how the tactics play out, especially in the heat.
Crazy that if not for a fall two years ago, Noonan could be going for a third straight 3200m state title this weekend.

I didn't recall Noonan falling in the state 3200m two years, but yeah I went back and at around 5 minutes into the race, Sean Morello tripped him. I'm surprised no one held Sean Morello (of Albany/Duke) accountable because it was his fault Noonan tripped.
I don’t think he tripped him intentionally. Especially in a competitive race like the state meet, these things are bound to happen
True, I agree. Speaking of tripping, did St. Francis girls make Palo Alto girls drop the baton in the CCS Finals 4x400m? At 3:53 in this video, it's hard to tell but do you think St. Francis or Palo Alto is at fault?

Yes, they did. It was this whole thing and I honestly have no clue how St Francis got away with it.
PA got DQ'd since the rules state you have to cross the finish line holding the baton, but then PA appealed and said SF had knocked the baton out of her hand, and then come up after the race and apologized for it, and after reviewing the footage from the finish line camera SF got DQ'd, and PA got reinstated.
I check results the next day and SF is back in the results and PA is out, so I don't know what ended up happening. IMO both teams should have just been disqualified, but the private schools get away with it as per usual.
Alsoooo Cal Poly has seemed to get their first class of 26 recruit- Kyle Jakary. XC season hasn’t even started but I think early commits are not exactly out of the ordinary

Just like private school Jesuit got away with 800m kid not getting dqed. Then they edited the tape. If Jesuit followed their mission statement they would scratch him out.
There won’t be any fast times this weekend at the state meet in the distance races. Just ain’t gonna happen.
Granted that Modesto is slightly cooler than Fresno, why not? German Fernandez solo'd 4:05 and 9:00 at the 2008 SJS Final in 97F - 100F heat in Modesto.
I'm curious if anyone has a count of state qualifiers this year whose parents were also state competitors. Sebastien Swain (800m, Piedmont, NCS) comes to mind; his mother is Becky Spies (Livermore, NCS), who impressively won back-to-back 1600m state titles and also earned bronze in the 800m.
Cooper Barr is the son of Lindsay Hyatt (Placer SJS) who is 4x state champion in the 800 and is the SJS 800 record holder. Barr and Swain both qualified for the 800
There’s also Ashlin Mallon (Cardinal Newman)- she didn’t qualify for state but was one of the top ranked 800 runners in NCS. Her mom is none other than Julia Stamps (Santa Rosa)
Isaac Abbott’s dad (Scott Abbott, also a Jesuit Alumni) was all state in XC in the 90s- he was also in the same graduating class and teammates with Michael Stember
Ik Jesuit kids be reading this thread. So I got a question. Is Navin Kadel running for the UCSD xc/tf? His 1600 time is faster than all of the recruits times, I’d be shocked if he didn’t get a spot on their team.
